Hey you! I know it’s been a hot minute, and we don’t talk as much as we used to.     “y’know, you’d THINK,” johnny smiles, the anger lines at his brow and his eyes softening, “that by now, i’d expect this kind of cringy ass shit from you.” although he’s never been shy of talking, filling the silence that scares him so, the warm buzz of liquor makes the words flow smoother. his voice is still gravel, rough around the edges and rumbling together, but for once, silverhand is MIRTHFUL. 

    he reaches across the darkness, the relief from the neon noise of the karaoke club they’ve just left, and rests his hand on the outside of one of kerry’s tattooed arms. from where he’s leaned with one shoulder against the wall, the world almost seems to make sense. there’s missing pieces of it, sure, and johnny can’t tell if all that time in mikoshi aged him or if he’s still the same shitter that broke kerry’s heart in the first place, but at least they get this. someone more poetic, more romantic than him would call it a second chance. 

    “yet you continue to surprise me.” and maybe it’s time for johnny to be full of surprises. his thumb strokes over kerry’s skin and his gaze lingers on it, treasuring the fact that this is REAL. he’s back. he can touch him. “you, uh...” he swallows thickly, pushing back his ego and the old johnny, and allowing the new to come forth. “you killed ‘em back there. think i even saw a girl faint...” and it’s so terribly pleasing that he’s the one escaping with him from those eager fans on the side of this disgusting road. it twists his smile into something more prideful and his hand wanders further down kerry’s arm.

    “uh... yeah, i’m not ready for this yet.” she wants more communication? she’ll GET IT. johnny won’t make eye contact with her, hasn’t since she walked into the room. he’d agreed to stop by kerry’s for a shower and some fresh clothes and lo and behold, HERE SHE IS. he should’ve expected this.

   “Trust me,” v. turns on her heels turning the cigarette in her direction, staring at the flames and holding it now between her indicator and thumb “these past few weeks? I’ve had plenty of ‘going to where it’s dark’ without wantin’ for a lifetime.”

It wouldn’t be the first time that v. thought she was about to die in a shitty ass motel, she never thought that she would be doin’ it because of someone eraser her mind though. She was fairly certain she nearly did, wonder if Johnny had anything with her still walking around now. He had made a promise, after all, who knows how much a word of a terrorist was really worth. She pulls on the filter, immediately pushing the smoke out. Chain smoking again, might as well kiss my eddies goodbye. Brows arch, the creases between her eyes becoming more pronounced. Short, stubby and bitten nails scratch the side of her temple before her eyes return to Shrike.

   “Nearly crashed my bike three times because I started —” ah, no point in bringing that up. V. waves and a thin and elegant line of smoke follows. 

The first time she had just gotten off her bike when she felt it come up, the coughing? The blue static? Hey, it was her favourite colour but it definitely wasn’t the last thing she wanted to see before dying. Night City being itself didn’t notice her nearly keeling by the side of the road. Her hand had basically gotten coated by a thin layer of her blood which was great to clean afterwards. But the last two she hadn’t even seen it coming, it had just happened. One while she was riding to her and Vince’s apartment. The second on the highway. And that one, the last one? She hadn’t crashed but she had gotten too fucking close.
