starter for @dead--format 's dr. crawford tillinghast
So much had gone into getting to this point, so many trials and errors, but now it was time for the ultimate test: to see if a reanimated corpse could wiggle their way back into society as a living, breathing, human being. With support from Dr. West and Cain, Kelsey was as ready as she could ever be, as she stepped out of the vehicle and into the daylight. Getting a volunteer position at Miskatonic was much easier to obtain than a paid position, but to Kelsey, money didn't matter. All she wanted was to be among other people, to connect with them. The library seemed to be just the place for her, as all her spare time would be consuming literature, as well as taking peace and solitude in the quiet. The callback she had gotten from the lady that interviewed her was ecstatic about Miss Frankenstein's willingness to help and her demeanor, it was exactly what they were looking for in a volunteer.
Over and over, as Kelsey made her way around the car, she repeated in her mind of what the lady had told her: to go to the front desk and someone should be able to help. Thoughts were interrupted briefly as she smoothed down the olive green cardigan she wore.
"So this is it," she exhaled, a bit of nerves starting to come up, taking a deep breath, holding onto her messenger bag that slung across her shoulder. This is what they spent oh so many months working towards. She smiled to the doctors, her mentors, guardians, with gratefulness, a hint of bitter-sweetness. If it wasn't for them, she'd still be buried in the ground. "The big day. I...couldn't have gotten here without you two. I-"
She then looked down at her watch. "Crap, I'm gonna be late."
The pale young woman, without another thought, let her emotions get to her, sweetly and quickly pecking a kiss to Dan's forehead. And then she made her way to the other side of the car, waiting a moment for Herbert to ready himself, as not to spook him, then did the same for him. Then, without thinking, again, she blurted out, "I-I love you both."
She stopped herself, as she realized she hadn't said it out loud before, but she made peace with it in a few seconds, blinking like her body had been taken off pause, "Right- I..If anything happens, I'll call, I have the house number. I'll call on my lunch break, I promise. Now I really have to go!"
Taking hold of her nerve-wracked trembling, Kelsey held the side of her arms and took brisk strides towards the library on campus. Upon entering, her heart fluttered with anxiety, but walking further in, the quiet and gentle murmuring of students studying started to put her at ease. Right. Front desk.
Making her way there, she saw a tall man sitting there. She smiled politely, shyly, her voice barely putting anything out, "G...Good morning. I um...I'm Kelsey Frankenstein, the new volunteer? I was told to meet someone here for my first day. I wasn't really given any name to ask for."
