Where my brother at
some of the plushies I’ll be making for my installation under cut, my goal is to make 30-some as per my age, this batch of designs will bring me up to eleven:
A sheep hiding its face with only the upper half wooly (non removable)
A kitty with claws, but im actually thinking instead i'll stud the entire thing like "armor" and belly embroidered with "DONT TOUCH ME"
Removable wool to reveal embroidered cuts and bruises
Anxi-kitty with tangled embroidery floss as “vomit”
a naked lamb using a red hood with its hands sewn to keep it closed but exposing the crotch
A bear with elongated arms, bead tears, and simply embroidered “NO MORE HUGS” (though im actually reconsidering land thinking abt leaving it blank, which could inversely indicate it wants to be hugged (which is fine))
A bunny with an extra short dress and red sequin hearts coming from its crotch, embroidered with “LOVE HURTS” on the dress
The way i sew the patterns creates this sort of vulva / labia in the crotch due to a stitch i put there. When done on fleece it’s largely unnoticeable and gives it a certain fluffy shape. However on cotton, as these toys are using for the bellies, it folds and wrinkles up on that stitch. I’ve been deliberately putting floral patterns where the breasts and crotch would be on these toys so far as well, to really hammer in the uncomfortable nature of the overall piece.
I’ll also be creating an unsexed humanoid doll with yarn hair reminiscent of the raggedy ann/andy dolls i had as a kid. I’m hoping to encourage guests to draw or write something on the Raggedy Me doll (like a guest book?) which is what I did to mine. Well, I crossed the eyes out and drew a lot of big splotches on them but whatever. Part of why I don’t put eyes on my handmade dolls.
