#dead scenes

Come to think on it, I don't recall seeing any "serious matches" in Guilty Gear The Missing Link, never mind Tournaments.

GG1 was rough, but not so rough it was unplayable.

I'd love to see two highly skilled players play GG1, even if just for laughs as old-school exhibition.

Was talking to ObsessiveBadguy yesterday about the Fighting Game “Scene” and how there are so many games out there that we just don’t play, given specific tastes.

I’m definitely NOT someone who follows Trends, if there is a game I like, I will Default on it, like Guilty Gear.  Not because it’s competitive, not because it’s in EVO, but because I enjoy playing in the universe GG has created.

Yesterday, me and ObsessiveBadguy jumped from three games and were playing each other and having a blast: Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, Last Blade 2, and eventually we defaulted to GGXrdRev2.

The idea being that it doesn’t matter even if the game is “good”, so long as you can “revisit it” and explore it with friends.

We also talked about Skullgirls and how neither of us was really good at the game, and yet we both agreed it is a Love Letter to Fighting Games as a whole.

We also talked about GG2 Overture and how (comparably speaking) similar it might be to Dissidia NT in certain ways if the mechanics were set up better, and we talked about how Jack-O’ is a representative of GG2′s mechanics, and how awesome it would have been if Faust would’ve been in GG2 as well, being able to summon wacky servants as he pleases.

Even if a game like Marvel VS Capcom Infinite, or even Street Fighter Cross Tekken is essentially “dead in the scene” (or not in EVO)... that shouldn't mean such games are completely unplayable or that nobody shouldn’t at least try them and play around.

As someone who collects fighting games, so long as I’m at least “breathing”, I will pick up any games I come across and play them, even just for an hour or two or more.

I mean yeah, there are games we “default” to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play around in other games (notorious or otherwise) and figure stuff out too while having fun?

I salute anyone who still plays Yie Ar Kung Fu after all these years, or even Street Fighter 1, just for the novelty of the experience.

I’d argue that if it weren’t for an obscure game like Yie Ar Kung Fu, none of us would be playing Fighting games today!  So a little respect should be given for the effort in making these games exist (whether they are good games or NOT!).

If possible, I’d love to setup a “Retro Tournament” someday, where people can show me how some of the classic games were meant to be played... or show me the worst glitch exploits ever, depending on your taste!
