Kicked off weekend with @lightbxnyc & @phhhoto! All wknd there's #yoga #dance #meditation & yummy sponsors @wtrmlnwtr @kusmiteaus at the #DDtR event. So fun! #nyc #lightboxnyc #phhhoto (at lightbox)
The folks at Lightbox in NYC ask you to start the new year immersed in art, technology and dance. This weekend marks the beta launch of its monthly creative programming. For each month, a curatorial theme is chosen and the first is meant to get you dancing into the new year. The theme "Dance, Dance tech-Revolution" or DDtR plays off the classic video game DDR. The curators select an artist to transform Lightbox's 3,000 square foot ground floor event space on 38th St in Midtown NYC. Artist Chaney Trotter will unveil a 500 square foot "Grass Cave" with LED sensors that respond to sound and movement.
The programming is designed to create interactive social experiences that span creativity, tech and health. They are calling it an "alternative to the bar, nightclub, theater or even the game night in your cramped apartment." The headline party is on Friday, January 9th, and is an interactive social experience that includes shorter elements of all of the artist and dance programming, music by Madison LST and Kiah Victoria, iPhone Phrenology by Lacey Dorn, games, healthy foods by Bon Bite and non-alcoholic drinks including a Kusmi Tea bar. If you are in it for the booze, then this really may not be your cup of tea... Throughout the weekend, there will be a variety of classes in dance (Mary John Frank), meditation (Biet Simkin), yoga (Jennifer Drapkin) and psychupuncture (Dr. Ellen Vora)!
The dancer-choreographer Marlon Taylor-Wiles will present Flying Under the Radar, four interactive dance performance that include digital art installations. Taylor-Wiles has danced with Armitage, Beyoncé and Madonna and is also partners with Liza Salzer on the luxury jewelry collection, Lulu Frost and George Frost.
The choreographer Mary John Frank will host two "Dance Dance Resolution" classes. She recently produced an experiential dance show called Debutant at the Kings County Distillery in the Brooklyn Navy Yard that was featured in Vogue and will be featured at the Friday Night Party.
DDTR is in partnership with Bon Bite, Kusmi Tea, Phhhoto, WTRMLN WTR & Boxed Water. The events are from Jan 9 -11 at 339 West 38th St and tickets are available here. Our fans can use the code artlogvip for 25% off all tickets.
