it's DC: weird things happen (1)
I usually text my best friend Heather when these things happen: crazy, bizarre, just completely random things that occur in my life on a semi-regular basis. So, I've decided to jot them down as they come - hoping to spread the DC onto you as well.
Wearing a headband walking to work, I was stopped - literally and physically stopped - by a man who paused and said, "Yes," *points at my face* "Definitely, definitely Pocahontas." Then he walks away. Um...okay.
After visiting my favorite flower shop around the corner multiple times a month and making friends with the employees, I went to wish Lawrence a happy birthday. He wasn't there, so they recorded me saying Happy Birthday on a phone. And they then proceeded to give me a dozen red roses just for the hell of it. So there I was, carrying red roses out of the store and throughout my day.
While exiting the metro with my purse and canvas 'Venezuela' lunch bag, someone behind me said, "Excuse me, ma'am?" I thought I had dropped something and turned around to address the middle-aged man. He did not give me anything but instead asked, "Are you from Venezuela?" Umm....have you seen me? "No sir I am not." "Are you sure?" He asked. Um..... "Yes sir I'm sure. This bag was from the embassy day actually." "Oh," he said. "Do you work around here?" "Yup - walking there as we speak," I said - I was weary. He stuck out his hand - "My name is Drew. What's yours?" "Hey.....I'm Sydney." "Alright, have a great day Sydney!" And he walked away, just like that. Like, what? I left confused.
A woman reading How To Get the Love You Want in plain sight of everyone on the metro.....highlighting and taking notes very loudly.....that just says it all.
I was that girl that got her skirt caught in the metro doors...for 4 stops...and couldn't move. Lovely.
