Derek James a.k.a. Sideways
Created as part of the "New Age of Heroes" initiative, as a way to tell a story that hadn't already been covered by DC Rebirth, Sideways was almost like DC's own version of Spider-Man. While he has different powers, he was created to be a story about a teenage loner who is trying to discover themselves. Sideways has vastly different powers though, being able to open up rifts in space that he can either look or travel through. He had his own comic series, but it was sadly cancelled after 13 issues. Since then, he has made cameos in Heroes in Crisis and the Young Justice comic.

Fancasting!: Tyler Alvarez as Sideways (Derek James)
Sideways is a really new character to the DC Universe but I’ve been reading his run and I think he has the potential for greatness. Derek James is Puerto Rican 🇵🇷but adopted by a lovely white couple from the suburbs of Gotham. After some supernatural events in metropolitan Gotham, Derek found that he had the ability to “rift” where ever he wanted to be. Not only is Tyler Alvarez (American Vandal) Puerto Rican just like Derek, he is a dead ringer in my opinion, I mean down to the eye color! I know that it’s a longshot, but if DC comics created a live action adaptation in some way, (and DC comics should be considering introducing some Latinx superheroes in their movies or tv shows, something that they really lack) Tyler Alvarez has my vote for Sideways.
