This morning I wasn't particularly in a hurry to do anything and feeling a little guilty about not resting my knee enough after a minor injury, so I decided to sit and decorate my purse calendar.

I have a confession to make. Now 9 months in to my one year spending fast, last week I broke down and cheated. Yes, I did. I bought a pack of day timer stickers on etsy that were just too cute to resist and cost $1.99.

Unbelievable how I can go a year without spending a dime on coffee, haircuts, clothes, accessories and shoes, but I break down on a set of stickers!  :)

I know...not a huge deal, but the point is I know I could have/should have waited until 2014 for this totally unnecessary item. So I decided when they arrive I'm going to tuck them away for the New Year- it'll give me something fun to look forward to adding to my calendar in January.

So I decided to create these little clip art images and date markers that I could add to my calendar for free, using just a sheet of sticker paper and the printer.

First I created these month stickers- using text boxes and patterned fill. They go right over where the month is printed and make the month page a little bit prettier.

Next I added the things that I do on a regular basis, and also holidays. Mine include:

date nights

family dinners

little cameras representing photo shoots

life group meetings

hiking

my keyboard & vocal schedule and husband's guitar schedule

cute little coffee cups for coffee dates (thanks to gift cards!)

cupcakes to represent birthdays

Most of my calendar items are things you wouldn't be able to find ready made so it was nice to be able to create them.. Here's what my doc. looked like before printing.

First I printed a fast draft in black and white to save ink and make sure things were the right size, then I printed on sticker paper and sliced them in to little tiny labels.

They fit into this little plastic organizer I had stored away in a closet.

And now my calendar looks so nice! The little month and week markers are from Martha Stewart and I got them at Staples using rewards money that they give for purchases and recycled ink.

For now my cheap little Staples calendar does the trick, but someday I would love to invest in a filofax system. Lots of room for everything you might need to organize a busy life and the saturated colors are to die for:
