Super Short Reviews: Summer tv part 2
The Outpost (CW) -- Reign meets the Shannara Chronicles? Why do people in bad fantasy shows always have bad English accents? If this had been made campy it could have been fun, like Xena was back in the day. Unfortunately, I have no idea what they were going for here.
Burden of Truth (CW) -- The great thing about this show is that after the first episode they show you everything else thats going to happen - so you don’t have to watch it anymore. I’m so impressed by how Kristen Kreuk looks exactly the same as she did when Smallville started 20 years ago. She’s a walking talking Restylane ad!!
The Sinner (USA) -- ok ok so technically this is not a new show but the storyline has nothing to do with last year, so you should watch it even its only new to you. Bill Pullman is weird and great and Carrie Coon is weird and great and Natalie Paul is not weird but still great and somehow they got Tracy Letts and David Call in the mix too. Its SO GOOD.
Making It (NBC) -- When I saw the ad with Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, I thought it was going to be a sendup - mockumentary style but a contest show. (think something like Best In Show.) It would have been soooooooooo funny if thats what it was!! That’s not what it was.
Lodge 49 (AMC) -- Where is this going? What’s going to happen?? Nowhere and Nothing are the answers in the first 2 episodes. uuuuuggggggghhhhhh
Carter (WGNAmerica) -- Is there a WGN Europe? Or WGN Asia? Or WGN Russia? Why is this channel called WGN America??? Anyway... Jerry O’Connell is back baby!!! Did anyone miss him? Probably not. But here’s the catch of this show -- 1. Donnie from Orphan Black (his real name is Charles Kristian Bonnycastle Bruun) is beloved by us alllllllll... 2. Brenda Kamino (who you probably don’t know) is hilarious... and 3. From the first second this show starts, it makes fun of itself in all the right ways. So guess what? It’s fun. And summer tv should be fun. Even if it’s silly fun. We all need a little more silly and fun. So there.
