Low- David Bowie
Released January 14, 1977
Low is an album that has flown under my radar until just this yearâŠ. And holy wow what an album! From the beginning âSpeed of Lifeâ is this intense instrumental that sets the mood of the whole album. Different and unique, nothing like David had ever made before with the assistance of Brian Eno and Tony Visconti producing.
âBreaking Glassâ and âWhat in The Worldâ are fantastic tracks. âSound and Visionâ and âBe My Wifeâ are some of my absolute favorites on the album. âAlways Crashing in the Same Carâ is always hard for me to listen to because of the context. Bowie struggled with a lot of depression at this time and apparently had an instant of driving around a parking garage like a maniac waiting for when heâd crash and wellâŠ. Itâs heartbreaking and hard to listen to because Iâve been in that state of mind too many times to count.
The remaining tracks on the album are mostly instrumental but they are all phenomenal! Brian Eno had such a fascinating way of creating these little worlds contained in each song. âA New Career in a New Townâ is such a fun piece I enjoy listening to whenever Iâm excited about things in my life. âArt Decadeâ, âWarszawaâ, and âWeeping Wallâ are all fascinating little realms of emotions.
Then there is my beloved âSubterraneansâ. I have a sneaking suspicion this will be my most played song of the year when I see my Spotify stats. I listen to it when Iâm meditating, before I go to bed, when I get up, while I clean, while I work, etc. Thereâs something inherently relaxing about it and I consider it my comfort blanket song. Davidâs vocals on it are stunningly haunting, a nonsensical chant that doesnât make sense logically but spiritually.
Lastly, regarding the creation of this, I know I didnât place myself closer to the title but I had a laugh about it since Iâm a mere 5â3â comparatively to Davidâs 5â10â. I kept it this way because of that. Short King things. âïž

And here's the old apartment where David Bowie lived in during his Berlin Years, the period where he wrote the material for Low and "Heroes," by far my favorite Bowie albums! We probably may never have an eccentric guy like Bowie ever again... #davidbowie #bowie #berlin #berlingermany #theberlinyears #davidbowieberlinyears #davidbowieberlin #low #heroes #davidbowieheroes #davidbowielow (at Berlin, Germany)
Happy 40th birthday to one of my all-time favorite albums (released 1/14/77). #DavidBowie #DavidBowieLow (at Lakeway, Texas)
Listening to David Bowie's Low for the first time. This album is so unlike any of his work before or after. It's macabre yet jittery, new wave yet avant-garde, peppy yet indifferent. I think I need to hear it a few more times to really understand what is being done here and the brevity of it. #DavidBowie #Low #DavidBowieLow #ZoneOutMusic
