Dragon of the Lost Sea, art by David Weisner for the novel by Laurence Yep, 1982
I purchased this book for my grandchildren based on all the outstanding reviews and awards this book received. I was so disappointed especially with the fact that the wolf eats the pigs. My daughter-in-law teaches at a preschool and the school also discarded this book for the same reason. Perhaps I have missed something here but I found this book to be very distrubing and not something I wanted to read to my grandchildren. How do we teach children that you can be eaten by a wolf and still survive and live happily ever after?
G. QUINN reviews The Three Little Pigs
Aliens and insects outsmart a cat... in what is essentially a picture book. I am genuinely baffled at the positive reviews on here. For whom is this book even intended? Seriously, what is going on here?

I now know, at the age of 33, how I got my fear of frogs..this book! I checked it out on a Tuesday, saw the Caldecott stamp, brought it home for my 11 month old to read at bedtime. When I saw the illustrations I couldn't believe it. I shut the book quickly, said "the end" and will not be reading this book to him in the near future (or ever). This book is just awful and creepy and I believe could give nightmares to young children.

This book was sent home from school with my son as a book report book. But there is nothing to report. There are less than ten words in this book. It was no challenge to his reading. The story is told in pictures. Rather creepy pictures to be honest. Frogs that fly around town and into homes in the middle of the night? Could definitely be creepy. This book is not worth $7.99, not even close. Don't bother.

I find it hard to believe this book receives any more than 1 star. My five year old daughter brought this home from school in order to learn to read. Instead, we opened to a drug induced defication eloquently transferred to paper. At no point could this book be used for anything remotely resembling education. I suppose it could be slightly entertaining for reminiscing of college day partaking in mind altering drugs. That being said, I will tell you I do not sit my children in front of a TV for hours, they are well traveled for their age and are introduced to several examples of art. Trust me when I say.......This book is stupid.
