Some fan art I commissioned by @antrobia from the end of "Randoms" david liss. Going to be doing a project with one of them here shortly, but I'm so excited to finally get some fanart made for this book.

A Kinda Long but Not Very Detailed Review of Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover - an intro + chapter 1
David Liss's Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover is the official prequel to Marvel's Spider-Man, which I'm a huge fan of. I have yet to read any reviews of it, so I'm going in with a nearly open mind (I talked to my friend @spiderzaap about their thoughts on the chapters they've read). I'm enjoying it so far! But I also have complaints. So let's get into them! (Disclaimer: both the game and its sequel are greatly influenced by comics, but I have yet to read those, so I can't comment on that. I can only say how I feel about this particular take on the characters and stuff.) (Disclaimer #2: These reviews will not be spoiler free.)

The Shadow Now #2 (2013)

I’m so excited to read this!
So I finished David Liss’ Hostile Takeover. I really enjoyed it, at first I didn’t have a lot of hopes because it’s a tie-in book that exist only to promote a game. The only book I read that was also a tie-in was Star Wars: Revan and omg it was so bad. It was sold as an ending of Kotor 1 & 2 but half the characters were barely in it and the other half was OOC & and it ends nothing and just exists to introduce the mmo.
Hostile Takeover is not like Revan. It does a pretty good job at being its own story and pretty much everything is conclude by the end of the book. The only thing I ... not dislike but that annoyed me is the epilogue because it takes place a few month after the story and instead of offering a glispe of what the characters became after the events, it justs set up the beginning of the game - Yuri calls Peter and say they will arrest Fisk basically.
Echo is also introduced in the book. She’s the second main character after Peter. As I was not familiar of her character, her chapters were boring at first but it turned out pretty well.
The best moments, for me, were when the narrative kind of stopped and focus on Peter, MJ or Harry. Like Peter taking time to see Harry before his trip to Europe (implied to be linked to Norman), we see glimps of their friendships, and how much the three of them are close. Plus Norman is not very present but we still understand that : he is a bad father to Harry ; he’s more diabolical as he seems.
Bonus : some infos about Peter’s mentor (in case you still don’t know who he is lol). His identity is not revealed but it is said that he works on artificial limbs ...
