National Gallery of Ireland unveils portraits of actors Ruth Negga and Stephen Rea

The national portrait collection at the National Gallery of Ireland celebrates the most influential figures in Irish history. The fields of Irish endeavour represented range from sport, literature and broadcasting to theatre and social justice. These two new portraits are now on display to the public, for free, in the Portrait Gallery at the National Gallery of Ireland.

Actor Ruth Negga said: “It has been a total and complete privilege to be the sitter for David’s work. Thank you to both David and the National Gallery of Ireland. Luckily for me he appears to have infused my portrait with his own qualities of grace, tenderness and that thing that I believe is crucial to art; a sense of the mysterious. Thank you for this extraordinary honour.”

Imagine being such a gigantic baby that you not only can't wear a gradient that barely qualifies as an actual rainbow for a few hours, during an event that's existed before you could even spell the word "hockey", but that you whine so hard and throw such a big baby fit your bosses nuke an entire event and the whole town's PR. Because you're a gigantic baby. And you are scawed of fabwic.

Song Review: David Bowie - “Cracked Actor” (Live, July 3, 1973)

David Bowie must’ve sensed the Spiders from Mars had run their course.

Like the “Suffragette City” that preceded it, the Spiders’ final “Cracked Actor” is raw and sloppy. They sound like a band ready for a permanent - or at least long - rest.

It’s out to promote the ongoing theatrical screenings of the restored “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture” and the forthcoming (Aug. 9) live album soundtrack and concert film.

Bowie was already a phenom at this point, yet his star was just beginning to rise, man. In hindsight, it’s easy to hear why; his subsequent phases of the 1970s and early-1980s were as groundbreaking as Ziggy - and the musicianship improved along the way.
