ESCAPE VELOCITY Colin Brake
4/5
Oooh Eight! I don't really know what happened to you at this point but I still want to give you a hug. So I've read a few novels with Sam and Fitz before but I've decided to start from this point and try and read them all in order from here. Then I'll go back to the start, maybe. Anyway, back to Escape Velocity. I really liked it : the Space Race, the alien invasion, and more importantly Eight being reunited with Fitz and the TARDIS. I like how Fitz has become protective of the Doctor, how much he has evolved since the Taint, and how Eight relies on Fitz : I mean he waited a hundred years for him with nothing to go on but a note. I like Anji, she's complex, she's clever, resourceful but cold, and I love her interactions with Fitz at the end. But I really thought Dave's dying would be more a big deal - I mean, it's not that she doesn't care but it didn't really feel like her boyfriend had just died. I hope her grief will be more explored later. I didn't like the end also, with all the aliens dying, it was a bit easy. Also what was the thing with Control? They're kind of useless in this story, kind of like they were added to the plot at the last minute, and I suppose (hope!) we'll get to know more about them later.
