see any cool mushrooms lately?

hello!!! I just got back from an arduous adventure with my baby brother (he's like. 8 years old) (I had been getting ready to leave the house when you first send this)

mushrooms! I've recently learned about a mushroom in the same genus as another one I like (I found this out because there's a doll line!!!! based on mushrooms!!!! (it's called Mogo Bloom) and all of them are really good, even the amanita muscaria,,,,,, they did a red mushroom with white dots GOOD!!!!! she's literally happy to be here, I CANNOT be mad at her)

(Mycena subcaerulea) This is the mushroom in the Mycena genus that one of the dolls in the line is based on -- sorry this one is unrelated

(Mycena galericulata) I was going to check which species was the other one just to make sure I was getting it right, and found these !!!! in the mycenaceae family page. These ones are old apparently!!! the younger ones have a more conical cap rather than convex. the common bonnet is out here showing us that age does not diminish beauty <3333 but okay, the other mycena one

(Mycena subcyanocephala) they are SO SMALL. and I love them. When I saw M. Subcaerulea's name and the doll based on it, I was like "oh !!! a blue mushroom from the Mycena genus!!! I recognize that one!!!!" but I Didn't. It was a different one!!! and they are both delightful, I love them sooo much

only somewhat related. I have a friend who edits wikipedia articles like, a lot, and I've kind of wanted to get into it specifically to add the mycological characteristics table to some articles that have the information to fill it out. they're one of my favourite parts about mushroom articles!!! but they do require information that'd require a lot of digging and possibly translations to get, so it'd be A Lot of research that I don't really have the time to do </3

you have asked before, but I'm always down to talk about them again!!

recently, I looked a little bit into mushrooms spore prints since I hadn't dedicated any time to them before, only looked in passing. spores are what mushrooms use to reproduce and stuff, BUT they don't always produce them throughout their lifetimes, so their use in identification can be limited

this is from the wikipedia page for spore prints, and it's of the paddy straw mushroom! this was after 24 hours. spore prints can be made on light+dark paper as seen above, or on a clear sheet that can be put over different materials for higher contrast!

the reason why we make spore prints is because different mushrooms will have different colours of spores, and will even have different thickness! like some mushrooms will leave a thin layer of spores after the 24 hours, and some will leave a heavier layer. this can also be useful in identification!

you can almost never tell a mushroom based on spore print alone though, you'd also have to look at it's other characteristics, and it's difficult to get one unless the mushroom is actively producing them or has more recently produced them when collected. I read thay elevation can also be a factor, so taking a mushroom from higher up terrain and trying to do a spore print lower down can sometimes if not most times be a dunce

but! you may also be able to see a mushrooms spore colour in the wild, if you look close and examine the stipe or nearby forest floor. not a guarantee, bevause of multiple factors, but definitely a possibility to keep in mind!

you might have also heard the word spore print as like, some people take mushroom caps and dip them in ink so they can stamp paper or fabric with them. this does get a similar effect to taking a proper spore print, so I guess it makes sense why the name caught on, especially when considering that prints are just a normal thing in the art community anyway

Admittedly not really, less because I don’t want to talk about them and more because they are generally vibes and I haven’t figured out their identities in ways that don’t relate to the main character that much (not an OC but is practically one), so I enjoy answering questions, just not talking about them unprompted because I can’t think of much to say.

40. Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share!

I don’t really have any, but they’re all somewhat inspired by media I’ve seen. However, I have sometimes started daydreaming about them during tests and had to be like ‘no you are writing an essay don’t give in you must prevail you must for the prophecy decrees it you miserable sod.’
