“Cap’n, sir, woman are bad luck on ships. The crystals in their bodies, remember?” Frenchie looked anxious as all hell, the others a bit trepidatious. And Jim’s scoff could be heard at the far end of the ship, with a muttering of Spanish behind.
“Yes, yes, we’ve all heard stories, Frenchie, but plants and flowers are also supposed to be bad luck on ships. And if they were truly bad luck, at least one of us would be dead by now, wouldn’t we?” Captain Stede Bonnet smiled, confidence in his logic, hoping to ease his crew’s worries.
“Best hope she’s not a siren lurin’ us all straight to hell!” Mr. Buttons shouted, as he had no other mode, making Stede jump not realizing the helmsman was right behind him. The Scotsman nodded to the lady who was to be joining their crew, at least for a time, “Pleasure ta make yer acquaintance.”
The others muttered a similar response, Frenchie even gave a bit of a curtsy, perhaps slightly embarrassed to be ignored about letting her on. They went about their business.
“Now, Miss Galya...” The Gentleman pirate turned to her, the same confident smile on his face, “Can you sew?”
