Details of the how the lay off happened....it made be feel like i did something wrong
I am not angry about what happened. It is business and it happens. I am not happy about it, though.
If they were going to do it, the timing could have not been better for me. I have been sick all week. I was only going in there to make sure I could keep my job. This coming week I would have really struggled to get my hours in as I going to be working extra at my first job without extra pay because I am salaried.
I received a call asking me if I could work an additional of 10 hours a week. I told the person that I could not do that and I was told that more than likely I would be eliminated but they did not know for sure right now. I was suppose to receive a return call, letting me know for sure.
When the call did not come whether or not I still had a job, I went to work. The parking lot was fairly empty and the call center was very empty.
I asked the mentor ( a person that answers questions) that was sitting in the front, no one of any authority was around. He did not know what was going on and told me to clock in and go to work.
Shortly after this, the manager came in and I asked him if I was suppose to be there. He told me that he did not know what was going on and was going over to the other building and would be back. The HR office is in the office next to the call center.
The manager returned, walked right past me, the mentor that was near me was asked to go over to a room next to the room I was in. I watched those two have a conversation and then the mentor came over and said he had to take to me to the other building.
I knew at this point, I lost my job. The mentor escorted me outside and I said I am not coming back and he tells me that I have to come back to clock out. He opens the door to the other building and tells me they do strange things around here.
He walks me to HR. He walks me past the woman that hired me and she would not even look at me. He knocks on a woman's door. She said she is waiting for another person to get there. I saw my check paperclip to some paperwork.
I sat down and said I am done, aren't I. I was in such shock, I do not remember exactly all that was said. A man came in, shut the door and stood in front of it.
I was given my check and some paperwork that I was being laid off and was eligible for rehire.
I got up to leave, the door to her office was held open. The mentor that had walked me to the other office was sitting in a chair outside her office, he said nothing to me and she called him into her office.
I walked out of the front door and headed toward my car and was met by another mentor leaving the HR building. He walked and talked with me as I walked to my car. All I remember him saying was that it was cold outside.
Being escorted around, made me feel like a criminal. I know it is necessary to do it that way because they don't know how some people will react but it made me feel like I did something wrong.
