Data-Bank-A: Access Denied (2016) MP3 Download via DIE or D.I.Y.? Well today we're going to older music times again with this album by Minimal Wave group Data-Bank-A called Access Denied. Some time ago I've been listening to quite some Minimal and Darkwave and this album reminded me of how interesting and modern this music actually sounds. It's a bit like 80's Synthpop with Post-Punk guitars and an Electro influence and while this particular download might be sourced from a cassette tape with its "overly" punnchy compression, I do like its lo-fi sound in a way. Track 1 Access Denied is the title track obviously, it's a very catchy track with a strong groove, nice guitars and some great classic synths. Track 2 Stress Factor is a bit weak compared to track 1 due to the guitar playing sounding a bit dissonant and not really focussed. Still it's a nice track with the classic synths and those weird tense vocals. Track 3 Trickle Down features a great phased sound, it's pretty dark and again that groove is so strong! Track 4 The Range is another great track, this album just keeps getting better, there's also a great delay effect on the vocals here, very trippy. Track 5 Etiquette of Travel features a full acoustic drumset and surely the groove is still as strong, also there are some strange high vocals on here, it sounds a bit psychedelic. Track 6 No Mecca features detuned synths and is all around great. Track 7 Waiting Room is a rather upbeat track compared to the rest and it's also rather long, but even for its minimal sound, this track doesn't sound like it's just meandering. Track 8 Once... features the most guitar you get on this album with a minimal groove, a nice closing track. As you can tell, I really like Access Denied. If you want to get to know the Minimal Wave genre in a great way, get this record.
