“Pay will be determined by how well you perform on your job and is split between you and your crew after the fulfillment of the required quota. If you believe you are capable of handling the requirements of the job you will be adequately compensated for both work and injuries.” Data spoke in a professional tone.

A snowball fight before returning to the stars!

“Aw heck yeah!” Gamma quickly shoves the cookie into her mouth, sending crumbs flying as she hums in delight.

She remembers the day she evolved. The rush of adrenaline as she battled off a monster while her crewmates scattered behind her. She could feel the humming energy from the apparatus at her feet as she danced around the beast, her small frame aiding her swift movements and allowing her access to its weak spot. As the creature fell the room was bathed in light as Gamma’s form changed. A once loose suit was now uncomfortably tight and the bitter tang in the air had turned sweet and energizing.

“Oh, thank you,” Nova gave a shy smile, taking a small bite of the cookie.

They remember the day they were accepted into college. Their family had always struggled with finances and education was not prioritized by the colony they lived in. But their parents always did what they could to support them. Money was saved and books scavenged. Time was put into researching schools, the requirements, costs, scholarships. Nova had long since accepted that it would be unlikely for them to get into a school. But the day a letter came to their door changed that. They had been accepted for a scholarship to the Haldren college of electronics and technology. It was not their first choice, nor would it be anyone’s. But it was a chance.

Briar sniffed the cookie before giving it a lick. The leaves on his back rustled as he let out a pleased churr and swiftly scarfed the treat down.

He could remember it. He was in the dark halls. They were his dark halls. His metal walkways and rusted things. But something had come into his dark. Trespassed. So he drove it away. But it had fangs and claws that hurt and spilled. So after it was gone he hid in his dark. Cleaned his spilling and waited. Something else came. It brought light into his dark. Soft light. Light that didn’t hurt. It found him. It saw his leaks and pains. It saw his claws and fangs as he hissed. It looked. But didn’t look long. It made noises but didn’t leave. It made itself smaller and offered a gift. Strange foods he had never tasted before. He allowed it closer for more of the strange flavor. It offered more of its gifts. It helped his leaks and offered comfort with soft touches and strange noises.

Data gave the cookie a simple inspection before taking a bite.

“All company ships contain one in the case of workplace accidents. However they can only be used once per employee at the beginning of each day and cost a fee unless a body was recovered to make up for the cost of the bio material.”

She was very much restraining herself from just doting on Data, due to the fact that she was part umbreon

Several things happened at the sound of the knock. Nova paled as she turned towards the door, taking several shaky steps backwards. Gamma overbalanced and fell from the bunk with a thud only to be dragged under by a growling Briar. And Data was quick to turn to the cameras.

With swift fingers she switches between the radar and live camera feed outside. She pauses seeing a stranger in one of the Company’s branded suits standing on their ‘porch’ despite floating in space. Likely a Company member that failed their quota but luckily managed to drift towards their ship.

“Helmets on, I’m depressurizing and opening the airlock briefly. It’s a worker.”

There was a momentary scramble as the team members were quick to put on the suit pieces needed for the brief lack of air.

With a click of the button the door was opened, their guest pulled in, and the door shutting them.

“Greetings and welcome to the Eon Voyager. I am indeed Data, the captain of this vessel. If you need assistance in returning safely to the Company planet we can provide you with transport but otherwise we will not be able to take you farther.”

Her ear flicks and she turns her attention to the glowing eyes from under the bunk.

Nova’s backpeddle quickly turned into a stumble. As the eevee tripped over their feet Data snatched a nearby cup, scooping the rotom from the air. Covering the bottom of the cup with her rubber glove she gave a glance at her new prisoner before turning her glare towards the gasping eevee.

“Explain.”

“I uh I,” Nova stumbled over her words, “I accidentally opened communications instead of logging and uh. I’ve been talking with whoever popped up. T-the rotom must have used the link to get in.”

“Hmm.” Data was silent as she looked back at Zax.

“Hey cmon the little just wanted to ask us some stuff!” A voice called from the bunk. Gamma leaned forwards, close to toppling off as she looked at the intruder with a large grin. “Not like anything else interesting will happen while we’re floating around like a hunk of junk in space. Sides what could they even want to do to us? We’re scrap collectors with no scrap!”

Data was silent for a moment. “Fine. Do not touch any of our equipment or I will hunt you down through cyberspace.” As she spoke the umbreon lifted the cup, releasing Zax.

“We work for Halden. Our job is to scout moons for valuable scrap to return to the Company. Any danger to be found on the job is reasonable, expected, and compensated,” Data listed.

“You mean batshit,” Gamma grinned from her bunk, ignoring Data’s glare, “dude the monsters on these places are crazy! Especially at night! I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve died so far!”
