Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Happy Thorsday - Dorri, the Spearman Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters.  This week it’s Dorri / Dori the Dwarven (Dverg / Dvergr / Dwarf). One of the Dwarves mentioned in the Voluspa Names of Dwarves the Dvergatal.

His name has been translated to mean either ‘ the Spearman’ or ‘the Ram’ meaning the animal literally, but is used to indicate to ram or thrust (his spear most likely) in this case. 

Often considered the same as the Dwarf Spearman Darri. Though if would not be crazy for them to be thought of as separate, as Norse mythological naming conventions of peoples after their weapons was common.

Dorri if the same as Darri was one of the gods including Loki and Delingr and Dwarves mentioned in the in the Lay of Svipdag, the love story of Svipdag and Mengloth, where these Gods and Dwarves constructed a hall ringed by fire, on the point of a spear, on the of the point of a great mountain.
