Late night, must be time for a podcast review! Let's talk about Dark Dunedin from @prospectparkproductions in New Zealand. Dark Dunedin is a dramatic fiction, thriller/mystery podcast. Our (super unreliable) narrator, Louise Hepburn, is an upper class painter, whose family is entering a fading glory of fortunes. As we follow Louise through her town, Dunedin, Ōtepoti--The Edinburgh of the West--we find Louise to be brash and intentionally abrasive with the rest of her family, in no small part due to her passion for drinking. 3 short seasons so far, as we follow Louise through town. We can admire her a little for her takes no sh*t attitude and unrelenting being herself--even when that self is a total lush with an obnoxious streak. But when a girl turns up dead, Louise finds it dredges up all kinds of memories from the past, and her half-assed attempts to follow the case lead to unexpected places. If you enjoy some Rachel Watson, Girl on a Train (Book) vibes, a New Zealand accent, and some facinating characters, then Dark Dunedin is for you.
