Favourite things: Denmark
Dansevise - Grethe and Jorgen Ingmann
Denmark missed the first Eurovision in 1956, but appeared from 1957 through to 1966 took a 12 year break and resuming their journey. They succeeded at the song contest in 1963, 2000 and 2013. and to their credit they have only one last place finish in 2002. Danish entrants are usually unique in their own way but never outlandish except that one year when there was a rap to a telephone operator.
Dansevise is my favourite of the Danish Eurovision winners. Most of you will recognise it as the tune played over the opening moments of the final in 2014. It is the sound of guitar that traps you in and the orchestral arrangement that makes you listen. It is a song that has unusual quirks and moments of whimsy. Without these things it is another song as the words themselves are quite simple. It is unique, curious and different from the Eurovision entry of the 60s to give it a modern sound compare to other songs. Grethe sings expertly and provides a good voice to go with this exceptional soundtrack.
In this house we love and respect Dansevise
It’s good it’s just overrated
Eurovision winner from 1963 - Dance Ballad
Sunshine in a puddle A kiss on the cheek from the wind And the reed that hums that life will start it’s spin in your mind Whistling from a tree top A slight tag-sound from a cat A ripple in the brook, a hiss in the bush That tell us the night is over
The meadow is wet from dew Lady Dawn goes to sleep The day rises Puck-playfully from the bed and walks over the sun’s bridge And the two of us? What about the two of us? Yes, what about the two of us, you and me? I dance and dance and stop and sense only you Oh why did you run away? Come back, come back Come back, you’re my beloved friend Come back, come back Where you want to go, we’ll dance to Come, let’s dance Anything can happen Come, let’s dance Let’s dance, let’s laugh [repeat]
