friendly neighborhood boyfriend?
in which daniela goes to her boyfriend's for the night and finds herself a surprise when he gets back.
content: trans!reader, spiderman!reader, college!au, established relationship, mentions of violence and blood
she hadn't been sleeping well the last few nights, between how sore her body could get during classes and the fact manon snored despite swearing that she didn't. daniela had been tossing and turning in bed for what felt like hours, but when she picked up her phone to check the time, it was only a little after midnight.
it encouraged her decision, and with a groan she was getting out of bed, grabbing her bag and keys, slipping on one of the jackets she had stolen from you before making her way out of the dorm. she was thankful that the drive to your dorm wasn't too long, and that you had given her a key.
as soon as she got to your dorm, she sent you a text saying she was on her way. daniela knew you well enough by now, she knew you were still awake. whether it was an assignment or you were up playing games with your friends, she fully expected to see you awake.
the fact that she was met with silence as she entered was a surprise to her. you were nowhere to be seen, and your phone and keys were both sitting on your nightstand. she stood there for a moment, glancing around the room, and she just sighed before curling up in your bed. as soon as her face was buried in your pillow, as soon as she inhaled the scent of your shampoo and cologne, a more content sigh escaped her.
you weren't sure how long you had been gone. the news app on your phone had sent out an alert around midnight that lizard had come out of the sewers, attacking anyone he could. honestly, you could have killed him, because that biology paper wasn't going to do itself, but you knew you had to hurry there, before anyone else got hurt. you made it to the scene in record time, but something had set him off, and he was much angrier than he normally was. you'd fought him back into the sewers, dodging hits from his tail, avoiding swipes from his claws.
or at least — you had been trying to avoid them. you weren't so lucky in the end, sharp claws swiping across your chest, tearing through your suit and digging into your skin. it hurt like a bitch, maybe the most pain you'd felt in years, but you continued fighting, not willing to let him hurt anyone else. in the end, you finally got him to back off, to retreat back to his hideout, and you were quick to leave before anyone could try and stop you.
the shortcuts to your dorm got you there quickly, and you made sure no one was watching when you gently eased your window open, slipping inside and closing it. as soon as the window was shut, you reached up and grabbed your mask, tugging it off as you heaved out a sigh. which was enough to alert daniela that you had come back. when she sat up in your bed, she hadn't expected to see you standing there in that, sweat on your face and blood on your chest.
her gasp made you turn around, eyes wide as you stared at her, as she stared at you. fuck fuck fuck, how had you not seen her laying in your bed? her eyes are just as wide, expression just as shocked, and you cannot believe this is happening. there's no point in hiding it, not when she sees you so blatantly. "i can explain," you began, but you didn't begin to explain once daniela stood up, walking over to you. she stopped just in front of you, hands shaking just enough for you to notice as she gently brushed her fingertips over your suit.
"don't," she spoke, eyes staring at the gash in your chest. you had already begun healing, you could feel that much, but you knew it looked rough. hell, it still felt rough. you remained silent, bracing yourself for her to turn her back to you, waiting for her to leave. but instead of either happening, she simply reached down, taking your hands in hers and walking you two over to your bed. "get that off and sit down."
the shock of her seeing you hadn't worn off yet, but you were in right enough a mind to listen. you did as she had said, getting out of your suit and sitting down in bed, wearing only the boxers you'd had underneath it. you heard her rummaging around in the bathroom, before she returned with a wet washcloth and your first aid kit in her hands. she was silent as she sat down next to you, taking the cloth and pressing it against the skin around your wound, wiping the dried blood off of you.
she was silent as she did it, but you could hear how her breathing had gone back to normal, could see that her hands had stopped shaking. your eyes took in every bit of her, from the way she seemed so focused to how her lip was pulled between her teeth. she was so focused on what she was doing that her words actually managed to surprise you when she next spoke.
"were you ever going to tell me?" she asked, putting the washcloth down now that you were cleaned up. the question made your gaze fall to your lap. were you? you'd wanted to, but hadn't ever been sure about it. "i don't know," you admitted, your voice quiet. "it's dangerous being me. i don't know how dangerous it is being with me, and i never want you to pay the price for me pissing off the wrong guy."
she nodded slightly then, opening the first aid kit, but your hands stopped her before she could do anything. "it's okay, i'll heal. it just takes some time when it's this bad." she paused, taking in your words before she finally met your eyes. you wished you could tell what the look in her eyes meant. as soon as she met your eyes, an amused scoff escaped her lips.
"i used to think this spiderman thing was some big joke, you know? i never thought he was real, that . . . that you were real." you listened to her, not interrupting because you knew she wasn't finished. "and then i moved here, and he was always on the news. saving kids from burning buildings, stopping bank robberies, fighting the bad guys. it became cool, in a way. that there was this hero in the city, someone who was just selfless, and wanted to help."
you still didn't speak, not sure what to say. what could you say, really? thankfully, daniela filled the silence. "i knew something was different. i mean . . . i knew you weren't cheating, i know you wouldn't do that. but you were secretive, and i could never guess what it was. i just thought it was a weird new yorker thing." a small laugh escaped you then, followed by a hiss at how it made you hurt. the lizard had done a number on you. "not a weird new yorker thing, just me. unless there's some other guy who got bit by a radioactive spider out there, but i doubt it."
she raised an eyebrow then, before she just shook her head at you. "i have no idea what that even means, you know that?" she asked, and you nodded, a small smile on your face. "it happened a long time ago. i was a junior, and we went on this field trip to oscorp. they had to be working on something, testing it on insects first, and the spider got out of the cage i guess. all i know is that it found me, and it bit me on my hand. and ever since then, i've been like this."
her hand reached out for yours then, thumb brushing over the back of yours as she looked down at them. "does anybody else know?" she asked, and you nodded a little. "yeah, lara and megan. just them though, and you." that didn't surprise her, not in the slightest. the three of you were close, of course you'd tell them if they hadn't found it out on their own.
her hand kept holding yours, silent for a few moments. something inside you told you that the two of you were okay, but you needed to hear her say it. "why do you do it? all the fighting?" she asked, and it felt like there was a lump in your throat. you'd never really thought about that — lara and megan had never needed answers. "i guess i just . . . i knew this city needed a hero, but there weren't many people who could be one. if i was given these powers for a reason, i wanted that reason to be a good one. i just can't not be spiderman, not when i can be."
she was quiet then, taking in your explanation. she didn't like it, not really. the gash on your chest being a prime reason why. but she had seen you long before she had met you. she'd seen you being kind, being helpful, long before she'd worked up the nerve to introduce herself to you. this was you, in so many ways, and she wished it made less sense than it did.
"i can't promise i'll ever understand, what it's like to be some hero. but i knew a while ago that i didn't want to lose you." her words were as much a relief as they were terrifying. being with you would make her a target, if anyone ever found out. she was smart enough to know that, too. but knowing she would choose you, knowing about the mask, it just made you love her even more.
Before and after the infection
LOCATION: Max’s apartment.
TIMEFRAME: 05/27, late evening.
OPEN TO: @alexsmu ( Max Chávez ).
The last time that Dani saw and spoke to Max didn’t go so well, and ever since then what he’d said had been on her mind. Though she’d been dating someone casually, his words of ‘I’m in love with you’ kept on ringing in her mind. No matter how much she tried to remember, she couldn’t picture her and Max in bed with one another. And really, she didn’t even know if it actually happened in a bed. Though she still couldn’t wrap her mind on his feelings for her, she knew that the right thing to do was to actually talk to him. After a particularly long shift at the hospital, Dani sent a text message to Max that read: I’m coming over. Be there in 20. After changing out of her scrubs, she jumped in her car and made the familiar drive to his apartment. Once she arrived she let herself in and made her way inside, finding Max in his room. “Hey..”
im not normal about this look at all
