Stat Review: CCM vs PER
In a very surprising game, the Mariners lost 2-1 to Perth Glory after taking the lead early with a goal to Bernie Ibini. Below are a few match facts you might not have seen:
There were 25 fouls committed in the game, but only one yellow, and that came in the 90th minute.
Perth hadn't scored in the three matches prior to this one.
Danny McBreen had both the most shots and the most fouls committed of anyone on the pitch.
Only one Mariner had more than one shot, whereas Perth had four players with at least two shots.

The 3-1 win by the Mariners helped them stay on top of the A-League ladder. Here's some interesting statistics from the game:
Adelaide had only five shots in the game compared to Central Coast's 23 shots.
Danny McBreen and Bernie Ibini had five shots each, and five other Mariners had at least two shots each.
Adelaide did not have a player with more than one shot.
The Mariners had a total of 44 crosses in the game, while Adelaide only had 10.

In regards to my previous post about the Mariner's tactics, it seems Graham Arnold has reverted to a 4-4-2 formation which limits the amount of space opponents have on the wings, which was evident in the latest game against Melbourne Heart - Heart were forced into attempting to drive through the middle of the pitch, which was congested and therefore difficult to penetrate.
Arnold also encouraged his midfielders and wingbacks to support the forwards Rogic and McBreen during attacks, and the Mariners always had three men in the box whenever Rose or Bojic were supplying their dangerous crosses.
The weakness of this approach is against a team with a fast counter-attack, or against teams with a good short-passing game. However, it seems no team in the A-League this season has been able to produce either of these scenarios, with the Mariners only loss so far this season (to Newcastle, Round 3) being due to a fairly questionable penalty and some rare poor wing defense.
