Daniel Dean, CCNP Security Certified
Recently, Daniel Dean, an engineer with E-N Computers, received a CCNA Security Certification from Cisco. This certification requires considerable knowledge, memorization, and dedication, as a successful person first needs either valid CNNA Security Certification (or CCIE Certification) and then also must pass four separate exams.
As he wrote about the experience, Mr. Dean said, “I studied a lot, mostly at my house, at night. I learned much more about networking and secure practices by taking the certification.”
E-N Computers strives to employ staffers who are knowledgeable and well qualified in IT service in order to provide offer their customers the best possible service. Along these lines, we’d like to offer a hearty congratulation to Daniel Dean for his recent CCNP certification.

Grilled peaches and saying farewell to my road dog
Daniel Dean once called me his road dog. I didn’t know whether I should be flattered or offended until I looked it up. A road dog is a close companion, someone with whom you travel or spend long amounts of time. Daniel Dean and I didn’t spend that much time together, but nonetheless, I was touched by the sentiment.Â
Daniel Dean and his then-girlfriend Shannon (or Iron Shannon as I like to call her, due to her adoration of irons, of the clothes-pressing variety) were a big influence in my art life. We had a few classes together and they apparently noticed something about me that they liked. It was how I got into the AVT Honors program, a program that one either has to apply to join, or be recommended by a member of the faculty. I got into the program on their recommendation. I later started to work with them in the Floating Lab Collective, or FLC, a group of DC/MD/VA-based artists that work collectively on performances, media art, and research. That was their doing too. There are a number of AVT faculty members on the FLC, and it was through them that I met and worked with a group of amazing people and professors that I wouldn’t have met otherwise. It was this that pushed me from being an art student to being an artist.Â
Daniel Dean (he has one of those names that you just have to say in its entirety) is one of those characters that everyone  in the art world knows and needs in their life. He’s Mr. Art, that guy that doesn’t sleep for days until a project is complete, that gives you constructive advice when you didn’t ask for it, and the guy that gives you graphic design pep talks when you’re cranky in the studio at four in the morning. He practically lives in the studio, actually, come to think of it, he might have actually done so during one extensive project.Â
Daniel Dean lives in Minneapolis now, and is currently finishing his masters of fine arts in experimental and media art. We rarely talk, and by “rarely,” I mean once or twice a year, yet I do not feel devoid of his presence. Life moves on, people come and go, but a person’s impact in your life is lasting.Â
I made these peaches at Daniel Dean’s farewell party and  think of him whenever I make them.Â
GRILLED PEACHES: 2-3 pounds of ripe peaches, 1/2 cup brown sugar (it doesn’t matter what kind), 1/2 cup of brandy, 2 tablespoons butter, melted, 2 tablespoons honey, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.Â
Halve the peaches. Combine remaining ingredients a bowl. Place peach halves on a hot grill, and brush with sugar mixture with a pastry brush. Grill until peaches have softened and are slightly charred.Â
