This rant is really unnecessary but I just wanted to tell you about my time seeing Something Rotten! and my experience with Adam Pascal and his Understudy.
Okay, so since I had learned that Adam Pascal was going to be stepping up to play the role of Shakespeare months ago, I had gotten myself SO PUMPED because omg I was going to see Something Rotten and ADAM PASCAL WAS GOING TO BE IN IT. I am a huge RENT fan and Roger is my favorite character, like, ever, ya feel? So, itās the day of the show, Iām fuking pumped, Iām at the theatre to see the show, and itās confirmed, his name is on the cast board in the lobby, his face is on the playbill, yes yes yes. Iām so ready I almost scream when I just see the back of him in the beginning...Ā
The Will Power scene starts, and Iām getting so excited, and Shakespeare turns around to face the crowd... And itās not Adam Pascal, but, his young understudy. My smile dropped, and I was so bitter during that whole number- I didnāt want to be, but I couldnāt help it, maybe I pumped myself up a little too hard, I mean, you do never know when an Understudy is needed. But nevertheless it was like that scene in Elf when Buddy sees the Mall Santa; āāYOUāRE NOT HIM. YOU SMELL LIKE BEEF AND CHEESE!āā
ANYWAYS, so, Act 1 finishes, and after intermission I walk back to my seat with a open mind. I gotta give the new guy a chance, itās only fair after all! Iām not going to let Adamās absence ruin my perfectly good Broadway night! So, Act 2 starts, and onceĀ Itās Hard to Be The Bard starts, Iām in love with him already.Ā š This understudy, was new-comer Daniel Beeman, and boy howdy he was so cute! Apparently this was only his THIRD show heād ever done (Adam had left for the whole weekend evidently), but you would have never been able to tell with how perfect his acting was! It was like the character was made for him! You could easily tell that he was having the absolute time of his life up on that stage!Ā Look out Broadway, Daniel Beeman is coming around the bend and will take the stage by storm sooner or later!Ā So, as you can see, overall, no, I didnāt get to see one of my Broadway crushes, but instead, I gained a new one, and I have hope for this new-comer that heāll be able to make it big in the future, and to become more than an just an Understudy!
TL;DR: DANIEL BEEMAN IS A HIDDEN GEM AND IS A FANTASTIC SHAKESPEARE, AND IF YOU ARE ABLE TO SEE HIM PERFORM AND NOT ADAM, BE SUPER HAPPY AND PROUD OF HIM BECAUSE HEāS FLAWLESS AND YOUāRE IN FOR A TREATĀ š
