I’m fine if people would still hate the one because of itself, and not the other one. I know people who dislike Elementary because of Elementary and not Sherlock, which I’m fine with.

Good call, I'm fine with that too, but it suddenly stops applying if they use even one comparison in talking about why they don't like it. If they watched one as if the other did not exist and still came to the conclusion that they did not like it, then whatever floats their boat, you know?

But if they're talking about the Elementary pilot and they didn't like it, and when explaining why they talk about something good about Sherlock, then they weren't judging it on its own merits, they were judging it on Sherlock's merits. It would be like watching a new Batman movie and saying you didn't like it because it wasn't as good as Nolan's series. Of course it isn't because it isn't Nolan's series and it isn't trying to be.

In the movies, it seems like they made it so that it had been many years after their graduation, unlike in the books. Harry’s parents, Lupin, Snape, all older by far.

The actress who played Lily was 36 in her first appearance, the actor playing James was 43, Lupin was 41, Snape was 55, Sirius was 46 and Pettigrew was 47. Remember that they were all in the same year at school together, and that James and Lily died at 21, so their actors should have appeared 10-20 years younger than their surviving peers.
