Saving Money in 2017
Hey guys! Long time no talk. I now understand why a lot of bloggers do this full time because I still haven’t figured out a time to blog during the week because of working full time and going to school, but I am working on it. Today I wanted to talk about some of the things I did last year that saved me a ton of money and how I’ve tweaked things to maximize my profits for this year. These are things that worked for me. Some things you may have to tweak to best fit you or some things because of your lifestyle might not work at all. Try to be open and try all of the options to see which best fits you.
The first thing I did to help me save money was to stop getting my check directly deposited into my account. Instead, I get another card through my bank with only my check on it every two weeks. I can take money out but I can’t deposit money onto that card. This has made it easier for me to manage my money. I have certain bills (Like my car payment and student loan) just on that card so it will automatically come from my check and then I’m able to take money out and deposit it into my other accounts and blow the rest(or be responsible and save more. All depends on how I’m feeling lol)
Next tip/idea is to save your cash. I made a piggy bank out of a mason jar and painted letters (girls just want to have funds..lol) and I put all of my loose change and $5.00 bills into the jar. I hardly carry cash on me. Usually just when I travel so when I do get cash, the change goes into my jar. I saved over $600 last year just with change and $5 bills. You could always start smaller and do dollar bills or just change. It adds up fast.
Write it out. I’m a very visual person. I have to write out the day something is due along with the amount. Seeing it on paper is easier for me to comprehend and easier to distribute money.Â
Cancel what you’re not using. Haven’t been to the gym in 3 years but still paying each month? Girl. Cancel that lol. I love anime and I had a monthly subscription to watch some of my favorites for free. The only problem was my same favorites were on netflix or youtube so I cancelled what I had. That 11.99 a month added up. If you’re not using it, chances are you’re not missing anything. Go through everything that you’re paying for and downsize.
Stay in some weekends. This one has become easier for me but was hard at first. I work with children during the week so when Friday came, I couldn’t wait to go out with my friends and drink and have fun. Having a girls night in still lets you have fun and it saves money. Why you buying $9 drinks when everybody can pitch in on a bottle of wine? You can still have fun without spending money lol
Clean out your closets. This is a big one. You don’t have to save that romper that you could wear in high school but you’ve gained a couple of pounds but you’re working on loosing it so you’re gonna fit into that romper again someday. Girl. Toss it. Throw it in the garbage. It’s ok. Don’t hang on to things you don’t have a need/use for. Now there are all kinds of mobile apps like poshmark that let you sell your gently used clothes and give you a decent profit back. Even if you end up just donating a bunch of stuff to goodwill, at least that gives you an excuse to save money to get some new stuff lol
There’s my list. It’s not a lot of things and some things may seem like duh, but just try them out. They’ve helped me with saving money and dare I say becoming a more responsible adult.Â
