Touching Evil #3
Touching Evil #3 Source Point Press 2019 By Dan Dougherty Coloured by Wesley Wong Previously in Touching Evil: George Junior is caught after attempting to murder Ada's son Oliver, in a failed act of revenge. Despite George's insistence that he killed Ada, Vincent Doyle correctly deduces that she is alive and has been given the curse that only and a select few know about. How long does Ada have before other interested parties make the same deduction and come looking for her? I know this is a few years old already which makes me excited to see what Dan is doing now. This is really a rather interesting and intriguing premise for a story and it has all the feel and impact of say a good John Grisham novel, it is this thriller that has a lawyer in a new situation she's unfamiliar with and at every turn someone else wants to take what she has and they'll do it at any cost. So yeah this is the definition of a what a thriller is and should be. Dan takes the time to really make sure that this is being told in a way that the reader can understand and relate to even if most of it is something we'll never encounter. I like the way that this is being told a whole heck of a lot. The story & plot development we see here through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is laid down phenomenally well. Ada's faced with so much all happening at once and for most folks this would be sensory overload and then to see what is transpiring at the prison well yeah that's what I am talking about. The character development we see is mindbogglingly exceptional! The strength we see in Ada, the desire in Vincent and the best of all is Brody who literally just stepped forward and showed us all what kind of man he is. Also it doesn't matter who the character is as ever single last one of them is fleshed out perfectly. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the twists and turns along the way it generates this gleeful excitement. With all these factors working together it creates the books ebb & flow as well as showcases how well the book is structured. I like the interiors here a lot. The linework is great an dhow we see the varying weights being utilised to bring out the attention to detail is beautifully rendered. The cell doors, floors, ceiling it has all these elements that make it look so real. The fact that we see backgrounds as we do is marvellous and the detail in those is stellar. It also works within the composition in the panels to bring us this great depth perception, scale and overall sense of size and scope of the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows a remarkably talented eye for storytelling. Plus damn the faces and facial expressions are so meticulously rendered helping make them simply divine work. The colour work that we see is nicely handled as well. I like how we see the various hues and tones within the colours utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadows. So many characters with so many agenda's and poor Ada is caught up in the middle of it all. Can she learn to utilise this gift, or curse if you prefer, keep herself and her son alive and maybe just maybe get back to having a normal life? I guess we'll have to stick around and find out now won't we...

Touching Evil #2
Touching Evil #2 Source Point Press 2019 By Dan Dougherty Coloured by Wesley Wong Colour Assists by Sheila Johnson An ancient curse, long hidden from those who use it for their own gain, has finally been let out into the world. The previous bearer was on Marvin Fenn, who was blackmailed by the warden Donald Nidmore into using it against his prisoners. The current bearer is Ada Mansfield, who does not yet realise that she now has the ability to kill anyone with the mere touch of her hand, provided that the person is evil. As a criminal lawyer, she is in a unique position to exercise this curse. While meeting a client, Ada inadvertently kills him as well as a bystander, and is then brutally shot by the client's son George Junior, who vows to kill her son Oliver as payback. The curse will not let its bearer die, but will Ada escape her grave in time to save her son? I am really impressed with what I am seeing here. While the layering here is rather intense and it does feel like if you don't pay close attention you will something it is still a marvellously entertaining and intelligent read. I am thoroughly entertained by what we see here and I really like this Dispatch Escort Agency, Travel and Hotel business because that is freakin brilliant! This is another of those reasons that I really enjoy what Source Point Press offers and how diverse the range of genres are covered. As they continue to grow and become a force in this industry it's books like this one right here that is going to lead the way. The story & plot development we see through the sequence of events unfolding and how the reader learns information is laid down extremely well. We see and learn what the characters as they go through everything and it really keeps up that whole tension thing that makes the reader want to see and know more. That things aren't revealed ahead of time is the kind of narrating that really makes a difference in how we relate to the characters. The character development that we see is very strong and we do get the chance to get to know the characters and what motivates them most. Those that don't we do get that further look at are among the reasons we want to come back and see more of them in action. The pacing is excellent and as it takes through the pages on this journey it brings out the twists and turns that help create the overall ebb & flow of the book. Also the way the book is structured is really really good and with everything that we see it just leaves us waiting for more. I like the interior artwork here a whole hell of a lot. The linework here is marvellously laid down and how we see the varying weights utilised to bring out the attention to detail is spectacular. From the brickwork on buildings to how we see faces and facial expressions or the backgrounds in general everything the same level of attention so the quality remains consistent throughout. Also with the backgrounds and the way that we see the composition inside the panels it bring us this depth perception, scale and a sense of size and scope to the book. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows such a strong eye for storytelling. The colour work is really nice to see here as well. The way that hues and tones of any colour are utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work really work to enhance what we see beautifully. This is some amazing storytelling going on here and as the story moves forward and the more we learn the more we want to know. Ada is definitely someone to keep an eye on and then of course the business with her son, Marvin and then Vince well I love how we can see all the different threads and how they are connected and how events will bring them together. I am genuinely excited for this series and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
Touching Evil #1
Touching Evil #1 Source Point Press 2019 By Dan Dougherty with Colours by Wesley Wong An attorney is given a curse from a mysterious prisoner that allows her to kill anyone instantly with just a touch of her hand... but only if they're evil. Her whole life is turned upside down in an instant as she is forced to question what evil is, who she can trust, and her own sanity. Get ready to meet a hero unlike anyone you've ever seen, and forgive her if she doesn't shake hands. I love working with Source Point Press and I love the fact that Dan sent this to me and asked for a review. I also love the story already and this is literally unlike anything else you will have read before. So as we started this story and things got underway we meet Ada, a lawyer who does her job and does it well. Sometimes she does it all too well and the guilty go free but that's not her problem now is it, this is what she's paid to do. Not ask if they are guilty but to defend them and make sure they are not found guilty at trial. She does have something of a conscious however and you can see how plays on her mind no matter how hard she tries to deny it. The story & plot development that we see here as the sequence of events unfold and how the reader learns information is exceptionally well done. I mean there is a great way that the characters in this story are introduced to us and that natural feeling of those entering her life find themselves going to be playing roles much different than any of us might have to thought to expect. Like her boss who is dying and is on oxygen and what he brings to this story and I believe that there are no coincidences in life and him sending her to a see a client of his was intentional. The character development is utterly amazing to see. We meet these folks and they all have their personalities pretty much established so it has this feel of starting a new show on the telly. So it will be exciting to see them grow and evolve over the course of this book. With the pacing here we these twists and turns that affect how the ebb & flow of the book. However everything we see here showcases how the structure of the book and how beautifully it's done. I really like the interiors here. The linework we see is nicely done it shows a strong steady hand with crisp clean lines and with the varying weights brings about a fairly good level of attention to detail. The work on the faces and facial expressions not to mention how we see the body language do great things for the characterisation that words alone cannot do. I like how we see the composition inside the panels here and the utilisation of the backgrounds so that they bring us depth perception, scale and a sense of size and scope to the story. When she's walking down the stops of the courthouse is a perfect example of this. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a really strong eye for storytelling. I like the colour work we're seeing as well. How we see light sources being utilised and how the different hues and tones within the colours are utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadows is impressive to see. This story is like someone took Law & Order and mixed it Supernatural and there we have it. This is full of real world dilemma's that aren't easy to answer as well as complex layering allows Dan to really delve into the nature of the human mind in ways that appear exploratory and near scientific and less to do with judging people or preaching. This is why I love Source Point Press, they have a great eye for talent and books that deserve to be put in front of the masses. So order this from your shop, subscription service or find them at a convention near you.
