hey chat i’m on a heathers kick at the moment so here’s me yelling about every single JD i’ve seen on camera and/or heard. trigger warning for the entire concept of heathers as a musical bc i am NOT listing all of that 😭
jamie muscato: original west end king and easily my fav JD. watching his performance genuinely made me feel actual sympathy for JD while still fully acknowledging “holy fuck this guy needs to be put in a mental facility.” the vocals? stunning. the acting methods? amazing. when i think “musical JD” he is the first guy that pops into my head. muscato nails the delivery of his lines and makes JD fit the bad boy persona while still seeming like a cringy teenager and it works very well for him. plays up JD’s abuse from his father and truly helps give insight into JD. every scene where he is on stage with his dad makes me sob. also, the line “i destroy things like my dad but i won’t let you become my mom” makes me tweak out bc holy FUCK
ryan mccarten: original world premiere king and a very solid JD. iconic vocals that absolutely EAT. not much to say acting wise bc finding clips of him that are longer than two minutes long is very hard to do, but still amazing. he walked so every other JD could run
casey likes: an icon. a legend. the moment. close second for my fav JD, and the only reason he isn’t is because muscato is just too iconic. i follow this man on instagram and he’s fucking hilarious. embodies OG movie JD on stage in the best way possible. manages to stare into the camera at some point in every single bootleg i have seen of him. line deliveries are amazing. smug little shit JD in the best way possible. the delivery of “you’re planning your future, veronica sAwH-yEr” lives in my head rent free. vocals EAT. i need a pro-shot of this man on my desk ASAP
dan donemach: first JD i ever saw on-stage bc he is the guy in The Heathers Bootleg™️. main thing that stands out to me about him is how he embodies the “I Don’t Give A Fuck” vibe that JD had in the OG movie. the delivery of “oh, look! she was reading… the b e l l j a r” still echoes in my head
simon gordon: west end pro-shot JD! iconic as hell. yet another person who plays JD as “cringy teenager” and does it very well. vocals are insane. chemistry with his veronica is also insane. the scene in dead girl walking where veronica breaks into JD’s room and simon makes sure that he puts the bookmark into his book AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE had me fucking cackling. constantly looks on the verge of tears and makes it work somehow
