Thanks @winterandwords for the tag here! Finally getting to it.
Rules: find five lines in your WIP that fit the parameters given!
I'm gonna use SOTL Year One for this one! I'm actually gonna focus on Tierney's chapter!
A line about hands
Tierney glanced down at the duvet he was sitting on. He rubbed his hand across it, feeling the familiar static shock. He kept sliding his palm back and forth and back and forth until he heard a crackling sound. He lifted his hand, concentrating as hard as he could, until he saw a spark. He rubbed his hands together until what appeared to be a purple lightning flickered around them. He stood, holding one hand palm-up, curling his fingers inward. A sparking purple ball of electricity had formed in his palm. He laughed giddly, opening his hand slightly so the ball got bigger. His hand shook and the electricity shot upward, blasting Tierney over the bed and causing him to crash onto the floor. Tierney groaned, pushing himself to his feet. The electric blast had burnt a hole through the canopy above his bed and made a small hole in the ceiling.
A line showing pain
Tierney smiled as he grabbed the handle of the dining hall. âAh! Shite! Câmon, there canât possibly be more static!â
A line with motion
Tierney scrambled out of bed and practically ran to the door--bare feet sliding on the hardwood floors--threw the door open, and jabbed his finger into Jarredâs side, causing Jarred to let out a rather embarrassing âeep!â as the static shock pierced through his cotton clothes, and he jumped back, almost falling over when his feet slipped on the carpet beneath him. Now it was Tierneyâs turn to laugh.
A line I love
âWhy are we less mature than our ten-year-old sister?â Tierney asked, sitting up to join his brothers.
âDonât worry, sheâll mature less when sheâs older,â said Jarred, rising to his feet.
A line featuring a person's name
Damari let out a frustrated noise and set the book on the table.
Well that last one was easy.
I'll tag @mk-writes-stuff @thepeculiarbird @elsie-writes @honeybewrites @the-golden-comet

Breath - from The Secret Portal Part One (Lexi POV)
The forest was dense and vastâshe could theoretically be anywhere.
Clues. Maybe there would be a sign of the direction she went.
I looked down to see if there were any imprints where she may have stepped. Most of the ground appeared untouched, but my eyes rested on a patch of flattened red ferns a few yards away. I ran toward them, then kept looking at the forest floor. The colorful leaves covering the ground appeared crunched, like someone had staggered through them shortly before I arrived. I followed the path they appeared to make. âAsh!â I called, hoping I was closer. Still, there was nothing.
I stopped at a patch of purple flowers. There were clumps of them similar scattered here and there, but these were as flattened as the ferns. I knelt down beside them. A black object settled beneath the flowers caught my eye, and I picked it up. I gaspedâone of Ashâs rings.
âAsh!â I called again as I stood. âASH!â She had to be close. I looked back down at the crushed blossoms. It was like sheâd collapsed in them.
My breath caught in my chest. âASH!â My breathing picked up. âASH!â What if she didnât hear me? If she was unconscious somewhereâŠ.
I tried calling her name again, but it was caught in my throat by a sudden sob. My hand enclosed the ring until it dug into my fingers. My legs felt weak and I found myself kneeling on the forest floor as tears streamed down my cheeks. I hit my thigh with my fist that enclosed the ring, scolding myself and my stupid anxiety for making me lose my focus after one setback.
âShe wasnât here,â I told myself, pulling on my braids. âThat means she had to stand up and walk away to somewhere else.â I closed my eyes, taking a shaky breath, and almost willed Ash to speak upâlet me know where she was.
âLexi!â
Wild - from The Secret Portal Part Two (Lexi POV)
Ash and Gwen came from band and arrived together every day, and it didnât seem too different. Ash sat beside me as usual, and Gwen in front of me.
We usually talked for the whole thirty minutes about various things: class, Gwenâs relationship with Akash, or whatever had happened during the weekend in Alium. But today, several minutes in, we hadnât really said a word to each other. I didnât have to be a telepath to figure out why. Beside me, Ash had her eyes glued to her food.
The silence was driving me insane. My knee bounced in anticipation. âSo howâs band going?â I blurted out.
âItâs fine,â Ash said.
âWeâre almost ready for our winter concert,â Gwen said, pulling me out of my misery.
âOh! Thatâs Thursday, right?â
âNext Thursday,â Gwen clarified.
âOur orchestra concert is next Friday,â I added on. âMaddieâs choir concert is next Saturday, the twenty-first. So weâll show up in Alium that Sunday morning. That weekend is going to be wild. Jazlyn and Wade both have a football game on Friday, and Ewan and Hye-Jin have concerts Saturday. I think Parker may be going to Wadeâs game and Ewan and Jazlyn to each otherâs activities. And Robbie has a winter play next week Thursday through Saturday. So next weekend will be vacant until Sunday.â
âHow do you know what everyoneâs doing?â Ash asked, finally saying something and looking up from her largely untouched food.
I blinked. âI dunno. I just remembered everyone talking about it.â
âWhat else do you know, their birthdays?â
âYeah,â I said.
I can tell I haven't revised this yet. Lexi would be tugging her hair, not bouncing her knee. And she wouldn't say Ash's eyes are glued to her food - just focused on them. Her voice is just slightly off.
Fall - from School of the Legends Year One
Tierney unfolded it and began to read aloud, âPrince Tierney Wayne, We are pleased to congratulate you on your qualification for Madame Goossensâ School for the Gifted, Majicked, and Cursed in the United States of America.â
âWhat?â his father asked. A pattering of feet from above indicated all of Tierneyâs siblings racing down the stairs. âKeep reading!â
âThis international school is for teens with unusual abilities, and we wish to provide an environment that is better suited for you, as well as teaching you control and opening greater opportunities for your future.â
âWhat does that mean?â Damari asked as everyone was now in the Hall.
Tierney shrugged and just continued. âAll of your credits will be transferred, and we hope to hear back from you soon with an acceptance letter. There is more information on the back of the letter. We hope to see you around our campus.â
âWell, whatâs the information on the back of the letter?â his father demanded.
Tierney, confused as ever, flipped the paper over. âUm, so this school is for the, uh, gifted, majicked, and cursed.â
âThat was established in the schoolâs name,â said the king.
âI apparently fall into the âgiftedâ category.â
âGifted!â the king boomed, his voice echoing off the majestic walls. âThat letter claims you--my son!--to be one of those mutants?â
âYouâre a gifted!â Ritchie said, almost too excited. With a glare from their father, he put on a more neutral demeanor. âSo, does it say what your gift is?â
Tierney scanned the paper. âUh, âqualification: electric-based powers.ââ
âElectric?â Damari repeated.
âWell that explains the constant shock,â said Ritchie.
âAnd the thunderstorm fetish.â
âJarred!â their mother scolded.
âWhat?â
