When I was still grieving my three-year relationship with my ex, I found the song “Be With You” by The Ridleys on Spotify. It had been almost a year since we broke up when I first listened to it. Hindi pa sila gaanong sikat yata noon, or maybe I just hadn’t heard about them yet.
Sabi ko sa sarili ko noon, di na ako magmamahal. Lahat naman tayo, di ba, kapag nasaktan na, sasabihin nating ayaw na natin. But there was something about this song. Ang gaan sa feeling, like everything will be alright. It makes you feel like you're in love kahit hindi naman. Or maybe I just really love love.
Nag-message pa nga ako sa page nila sa Facebook. On June 11, 2024, I said, “I like the ‘Be With You’ song. I knew from the moment I heard the intro that I would love it, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve also listened to some of your songs on Spotify. You have this vibe that makes me feel like I’m in a music video. Parang may memory akong nakabaon na nauungkat because of your songs. Ganun yung feeling.”
Di ko naman ineexpect kung magre-reply sila o hindi, so I sent another message: “Bat ganon, The Ridleys? Pag pinapakinggan ko songs niyo, parang gusto kong ma-in love pero at the same time umiyak? Parang ang dami kong naaalala. Paano niyo nagagawa yun ha??? Tama na kayo. Charot 😭🥹 Parang may memories akong nakabaon na nauungkat because of your songs, whether happy or sad. 🥹”
Haha. Wala lang. It would be nice to be treated with good intentions, just like the lyrics of that song, ‘no?
