I keep getting asked: "What is After Hour Diaries?" Well, it's time for you to find out! To start, allow me to introduce myself- I am Daisy Devine, alternative pin-up model and bad-ass rocker bitch with a heart of... well, not quite gold- but its at least silver quality. I'm passionate about art in all its forms- and for me, nothing really speaks to my soul quite like people expressing themselves passionately. Anyone can follow a recipe, but if their heart isn't in it or they don’t enjoy cooking then the food will always taste a bit bland. However, take someone that LOVES food and turn them lose in a barely stocked kitchen and they'll blow your mind with the amazing creations they come up with. Same applies to music, tattoos, etc..
I've made it my personal mission to search the underground music scene of the Inland Northwest to seek out the hard-working talent deserving of some much needed recognition. Each week I will update my followers (you clearly have great taste- just sayin. ~_^) on the latest bands I've checked out, informing you about their sound, the type of energy they inspire, along with the various venues I visit. I will be posting videos, pictures, links and interviews here each week as I uncover the best in local music as well as the top-of-the-line body modification artists around.
It's time to get amplified people! Lets pump some new life into the still beating heart of our very own communities, it's our job and privilege to chose what our next generation of music will sound like- so let's shape it how we want it, from the quality, even to the quantity of names we push forth into the music community. We all know Bing Crosby and Kurt Cobain emerged from Washington, but the talent certainly doesn’t end there! Myles Kennedy attended Mead High School and SFCC, Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains lead guitar/ co-lead vocals) stems from Tacoma, Chris Cornell (lead vocals for Soundgarden) from Seattle- the list goes on (oh-my-god.. Sir mix-a-lot is from Bremerton... but we won't hold that against them).
My point: Let's get to know our talent!
Your role: You know a band that kicks some ass? Tell me about them! If you're in a band and want me to check out your stuff- email me a demo!
I've been hearing a lot of buzz about various bands and plan to check some out this weekend- so be here next Tuesday at 2 for Daisy Devine's After Hour Diaries to get my take on these aspiring musicians and more! Thank you for the astounding support and I look forward to many exciting adventures together!
showcasing local musical talent and beyond
Nonpoint @the Palamino 4-8-15
The Palemino club, concert venue on Spokane’s north side- my first expirience at this location happened to be watching Nonpoint..live..this weekend… In a word: awesome! I could go on and on about the headliners, but that would be silly because they certainly don’t need MY help spreading the word as to how incredible they are! However, the venue? Well, previously, I’d primarily experienced live music at the knit, downtown- along with a few other, more intimate venues- so I was unsure what to expect of this location. You know, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! The open area in front of the stage is ready to accommodate a decent sized crowd, while maintaining a very intimate feel with the second level of seating along the sides and rear of the pit. The house was pretty well packed, yet the Palamino was ready for it, providing bars, as well as restrooms on each floor. I never had to wait in a big line for anything, nor saw anyone else waiting for long. The staff was friendly and efficient, with experienced bartenders that kept the floor of things smooth and consistent throughout the night. I can certainly appreciate that, being a former bartender myself- keeping a large crowd happy in a timely manner is no easy feat!
The next key thing I noticed, was the sound quality. I took several videos from the show, and was completely stunned to hear.. Nonpoint?!.. I expected to hear instruments drowning out the vocals at least, and even THAT wouldn’t be too clear due to feedback etc.. But even from the very front/ right of the stage, I had clear recording quality. I was able to hear the band just as clearly in every corner of the venue as I did up close to them- in the back, upstairs, and even above and behind them (press pass area). At one point, Elias (Nonpoint front man) even commented on how pleased they were with the Palamino club. *side note: check out my album “Nonpoint” for some of the nights great captures! And a special Thanks to Adam of Sykk Productions as well as the guys from Nonpoint for beiing such great sports t the other night, it was a blast!* :) If you haven’t been able to enjoy a show here yet, there are plenty of opportunities coming up, like the 2nd annual Greefest with Free the Jester on the 24th!
There are lots of great things in the works right now- I’ve been invited to join a certain local bunch in studio this week, so be here next week when I post my exiting exclusive with them!! Also, I talked with Shaiden of Banish the Echo today, who let me know about an all day music fest coming up may 2 at the Pinnacle, ONLY $10 for live music ALL day! Looks like we’ve got some shows to see Spokane… Now, as promised…… My big announcement- on April 8, 1985 at approx 10:17am, Daisy made her grand escape into this world, and now, 30 years later I’m gonna say goodbye to the precious 20’s, and bring in my “dirty 30” like a boss!!! Come join me to celebrate out at Cruisers stateline for a very special Garaoke- with special guests Invasive and Banish the Echo doing some acoustic performances!!! The party gets into full swing at 8pm- but remember, it’s an Alice in Wonderland/Mad Hatter theme: A Very 30th Un-birthday, so feel free to have some fun and dress up! I will (of course) be dressed as Alice, can’t wait to see you all there!
Are you a psycho? I sure as hell am! And I'm not talking about the kind my ex husband might call me, lol, I'm talking about the kind that was at the big dipper Sunday night watching none other than the amazing psycho Syndicate bust out some amazing music that had the whole house rocking for the entire 9 song set! As I looked around I saw nothing but smiles add the crowd bounced around, obviously having one hell of a good time. My friends and I were commenting on how they really found their sound as a band- the kind of unity that comes froma LONG time being together, adapting and tweeking until everything finally sinks up... Imagine my shock when I discovered I had just watched their SECOND SHOW EVER! WHAAAA?!... I just HAD to know... Well, with the help of the ever-amazing Heidi (can't even begin to thank her enough for all she did) I got the privilege of sitting down with the foursome after the show in what shall forever be known as "sin ally" to find out more... I learned that this group has only been together since October of 2014! Starting with previous bandmates Travis (bass) and Leo (drums)back in August, then Jason found THEM and joined on guitar. Soon after, Tiffany came in from Moses Lake with those mighty vocals to make magic happen. I interviewed all four separately, yet they all had the same thing to say- that from the first time they all four sat in a room together it was like the stars aligned and things just began to flow. Thus came their first two singles, and sealed their fate. Each has a very unique-to-themselves style they bring in and somehow they are able to maintain that while meshing it together in a way that it still sounds harmonious. One things for sure, psycho Syndicate is a harmonious collaboration of four individual souls who are dedicated and PASSIONATE about their music in every aspect, supporting one another's differences- which I personally feel is exactly why they are so harmonious and all on the same wavelength ^_^ I will be posting the fun extra stuff momentarily, in the mean time, get your ass to reverb nation and FIND THEM if you haven't already!

Heart Avail 3-18-15
With a powerful sound like theirs, it's no wonder this band is # 1 on ReverbNations local chart. I was unable to attend any shows this week due to some pressing family matters, so I scowered the "nation" In search of something that would grab a hold of me and demand an ear.. After thoroughly listening to about 7 different bands or so, I happened upon this little gem. Now what catches my attention the most would have to be the way I feel while I listen to the music. I'm immediately taken back to high school- listening to Godsmacks "Voodoo" playing in my friend Tonja's basement while we drank mikes hard lemonade under a black light- ha! We thought we were total badasses... Anyways, this was close to the time frame Evanescence hit it big. How can you forget the chills you got from hearing Amy Lee belt out lyrics to songs such as "haunted" and "tourniquet"? Similarly, Heart Avail drew me in for the taking. I can't help but feel like I'm listening to the calm before the storm however- as if the singer is carefully holding her voice back rather than pushing it outward, saving her full capacity for the 'Grand finale'. With incense lit and headphones in place, I dove into the 17 songs from this intriguing band. From original songs to catchy remakes there wasn't anything that stood out as lacking. I especially enjoyed their take on "sweet dreams" (what can I say? I'm a sucker for the Eurythmics), it was different than other versions I've heard before, including the almost Erie voices howling in the background. I'm definitely eager to hear these guys in person and get the full effect- they are playing at the Pinnacle NW on the 30th, or you can check them out on reverbnation. Thanks for stopping by and reading my take on local music ^_^ Hope to see you all at metal slam this weekend!
Mercy Brown @the knit 3-11-15
Seven cycles & Mercy Brown opened for Machinehead at the knit on Sunday night- and I had the privilege of being right above their heads So what caught my attention? The enthusiastic crowd jumping around and cheering? The Content faces with beer flowing past their smiling lips? Or maybe the sound of the instruments beating through the amps overhead? No. Though these were all wonderful, that can be found anywhere. What captivated me completely (and turned me into a stammering little fan girl) was Mercy brown. The entire band played with a phenomenal energy, and OMG, Sera Hatchett's voice! Standing at roughly 5'5" and maybe a buck twenty soaking wet, this dainty little thing can scream with the vocal power and energy of a possessed banshee- in the best way imaginable! Deep and throaty with lyrics that get your heart racing, while simultaneously easing your soul with the smooth musical vibrations. Seemingly flawless transitions from deep and powerful screams to a sweet gentle hymn that invites you in like a mother to her child. Her vocal range is hard to believe until you hear it for yourself- combine it with the adrenalizing musical styling of the other hand members and you've got yourself nothing short of a BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMARE. I had to get up from my chair and walk down to the front of the stage to get a closer look, and when their set was finished it left me wanting more! Who the hell were they?! Why haven't I heard them before?! Within minutes I was bing-Ing them to search FB and Youtube in between meeting some of my followers (such a pleasure by the way-you're all wonderful!!) and an adventure in the ladies room with two lovely ladies who offered to block the door-less stall so I could pee in privacy lol- Thanks Arli and Signa, you won't soon be forgotten! I was able to chat briefly with the band after their set (when I turned fan girl) and very much look forward to setting up an official interview here in the near future to see what we can expect next. All said and done~ Mercy Brown is a MUST see and the start of Daisy Devines "Who to watch" list.. Between their talent and showmanship you certainly won't regret it! ✯Daisy✩Devine✯
