Hey guys, I just downloaded MM v0.53 and I can’t run the .exe because “Windows protected your PC” :( It’s all, “SmartScreen prevented this app from opening because it could harm your PC” Can you help?

Mod Maker’s Note: SmartScreen is a Windows built-in security screen, and it can be activated when using software that has not been vetted by Microsoft or its third-party security partners. As it is part of the Windows OS, the Mod Makers can’t really give a lot of advice on this issue other than vouch for the safety of the software if obtained via the link either on the DAIModder site or on the DAI Tools forum. 

There are several compendiums planned, all to be addressed as RL time allows. Though the next one will be dedicated to Companion & Advisor mods, the one after that will be dedicated to Complexions, Face Textures, and Eyebrow mods. Beyond that, of course would be an Equipment Compendium, a Non-PC Retexture Compendium, and a Gameplay/Mechanics Mods Compendium.

Welcome to the modding community! This blog is mostly intended for those who use the mods, but the Mod Makers can point you in a hopefully useful direction for learning how to mod for DAI.

For Hair mods in particular, this Mod Maker would start with the Hair Mod Tutorial put together by adella9​ and thetrollingchaos​ on the DAI Tools Forum.

For modding in general, the best place the Mod Makers can recommend to start would be the DAI Tools forum. Quite a few modders check those forums on a regular to semi-regular basis, and there are many cool features, including a Current Tutorials section which is geared towards both modders and mod users alike. It is highly recommended you head over there, introduce yourself, and get familiar with how the forums are set up. There is a lot of information to be found there!

Another resource is the DAI Modding and Fan Creations group on the BSN (Bioware Social Network). In particular, the DAI Tools group discussion can be a treasure trove of information if you have to patience to work your way through it, since it tracked the development of how to mod DAI. 

Both resources have a lot of information, and there is a lot of information to take in. But those are the two best recommendations the Mod Makers can make about learning how to mod for DAI.

anyway, when i try and use pajama mods without a daimod file, it says this:

Processing distributable patch “QF dracolisk jammies” [7/11/2015 1:39 PM] Task failed. Error reported was: Could not load file or assembly ‘zlib.net, Version=1.0.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=47d7877cb3620160’ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Troubleshooting performed so far: ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but i’m not sure where to go from here.

Mod Maker’s Note: This Mod Maker was able to download and successfully merge this mod without any issues, so they were unable to reproduce the error, unfortunately. 

However, here are some things you could try:

Have you run a Repair Game from Origin since changing from Patch 7 to Patch 8? If not, delete the ‘Patch’ folder and any modded Patch folders from the Update folder and run a Repair Game

If you have the original file download from the Nexus, try extracting it again just to make sure nothing happened to the copy of the files you’re using. If you don’t have that file, just re-download from the Nexus and extract it again

As a test, try merging only the Official Patch and that one mod to see if it works

Mod Maker’s Note: You may need to manually change the daimodmanager.ini file. This file can be found in the same folder where your DAIModManager.exe file is located.

To set your paths manually, open the daimodmanager.ini file with notepad. You will see the following lines:

BasePath=path_to_DAI_installation ModPath=path_to_DAI_mod_files PatchVersion=9 Version=v0.53 alpha

Change the BasePath to the value where your DragonAgeInquisition.exe file is found, and the ModPath to the folder where you’ve put the mods you want to merge together. The other lines should be exactly as above. Once you’ve made all the changes you need to, save the file.

I have followed the instructions to revert to patch 7 and that patch (vanilla) worked fine. However when I make a merged patch (with mods) the game won’t start for some reason (only runs in the background, won’t actually do anything). Any idea what’s causing it and how to make it working again? It shouldn’t be the mods as I have succesfully used them before.
