changelings like him were created by one of the kin, their deities (who are also elves) to act as spies for the elves during the great war against humans 3000 years prior to the beginning of daim's adventures

to his great disappointment, daim has neither been contacted by his deity (or found a partner and gotten children, of which he dreams), and he's especially bitter as said deity promised they'd stay in touch. daim has since stopped believing
