Infinity Chasing ImahanâChapter 1: Sudden Duel!
As I was walking toward the bus stop, it hit me.
âI'm really going to attend the Werl Magic Campus!â
Even though it was slightly dark since the sun wasn't fully up yet, I knew I was smiling from cheek to cheek.
Haa⌠Those 6 months of exercise to get in shape and having to hold back from eating howeverâŚ
âThe painful memories bring tears to my eyes!â
I sniffed as I thought of such things.
I had my admission letter sealed inside a plastic folder, the kind that snapped shut with a single click
âI'm not losing my admission letter!â
The bus stopped in front of the gate of the greatest Magic Academy in the world.
âTruly, my Werl Magic Campus!â
I inhaled deeply as I took the atmosphere in.
The guard signaled to me to approach, so I gave him my folder containing the admission letter.
âCongratulations on making it into the CampusâŚâ He smiled warmly.
âThanks.â
Then, his expression grew stern.
âDon't you ever lose this letter. Unless a professor asks you to hand it over, you should hold onto it.â
I nodded.
âSounds simple enough.â
Walking right in, fortunately there were signs I could follow.
After about a dozen or so minutes of walking a change occurred.
âHeya short stuffâŚâ I heard a voice from behind me.
âWhat do I do? Should I turn around?â I resisted a reflex to turn around, and instead clutched onto my folder tightly.
I gulped.
âGood morning, new comer.â Another voice greeted me.
âI can't tell where the voice is coming fromâŚâ
I thought it was really freaky hazing, judging from the way he said ânew comerâ like that.
âYou read about this stuff in comics, but it's so weird when you experience the hazing yourself.â
That's when I noticed⌠I was trembling.
âWe're here to weed the chaff from the wheatâŚâ The unknown voice spoke again.
âHe is, but not me!â
It felt like someone was rushing me from behind.
I booked it.
âWowâŚâ His voice jeered. âLook at you run. I've been chasing you for a couple minutes now, but you're still going strong, huh?â
âLet go of your admission letter!â A shadow dashed in front of my eyes.
Next thing I know, I was falling⌠a heat over my chin and my head ringing.
âWhoa, did I tank a kick to my chin? I must be way stronger than I thoughtâŚâ
It's the same kind of feeling when you catch a glass cup from falling from the table because you unknowingly hit it.
That was the rush of realisation that flowed over me.
âWon't you hand it over?â I heard footsteps.
âI didn't drop my folder? Whoa, that settles it⌠I really am more capable than I thought!â
âSorry, but I can't give this letter to anyone who isn't a professor.â I told them.
âHopefully, that'll make âem stop bothering me.â
Duel vs Jether
âAh, so you know that the moment we get our hands on your letter, your admission will be revoked?â
My eyes opened wide.
âIs that how it is!?â
I was shaken.
âThis is some kind of test! It's not just hazing.â
âHow many points do I get for that?â I asked, giggling a bit.
âWell, since you went down in one hit, I'd say 2âŚâ
âOut of hundred!?â I gasped.
âOh no, out of ten.â
âDamnâŚâ
âWheew! Don't scare me like that!â
âWhat do I need to do to pass this test?â
âKid, do you think I'm a weakling or something?â He kicked my back.
âStop it, Jether.â
âShut up!â
I felt a heat blowing over my body.
I rolled over to see a fireball hovering a bit above his hand.
âYou wanna know how to ace this test?â He grinned. âYa gotta beat me! Don't matter how ya do it, just defeat me. Sounds easy, right, smartass!?â
âWow, he sounds pissed. Is he acting?â
âIf I must.â I got up.
âYou have accepted a duel, you knowâŚâ The other guy said.
âYes, I, Imahan, accept the duel to fight Jether, so I can gain admission!â
âVery well.â The guy nodded. âI, Hogo, shall preside as witness between 2nd Year General Magic student Jether and newcomer Imahan!â
âEeeep!!!! Huh?! The guy I'm going to fight is a 2nd year!? Whoa, nobody told me about this!â
I believe I winced and recoiled, making
Jether grin madly as his entire body seemingly caught on fire.
âH-hey!â I shouted. âHe caught on fire!â
Hogo shook his head while the heat cranked up to 11.
I understood I was in deep shit.
I just wanted to hand over my letter to a professor, and secure admission, but these jerks just had to catch me and force me into this hopeless duel.
âGet it together, Ima! You're chasing the infinity. You cannot lose before the fight has even started!â
I psyched myself up, relieving the tension in my body, ready to run away!
