Transmission Initiated Transmission ID: 00020 TFNation_2017 Operation: A Brave New World
A series of transforming robot toys and cartoons by Takara, in the spirit of Transformers, that wasn’t Transformers?
Eight separate original series, in eight years, in eight separate continuities?
G1 Dinobots, playing the bad guys?
Believe it or not folks, this is all real. It’s the wonderful and unique concept of the BRAVE SERIES. TFNation 2017 is going to highlight this less known cousin of Transformers with several special events.
But what is BRAVE?
In 1990, Transformers had disappeared from Japanese airwaves with Transformers Victory, with the short-lived direct to video Transformers Zone being the final animated adventure of the Transformers in Japan. Not wanting to lose out on that lucrative TV robot market, Takara in 1990 teamed up with animation studio Sunrise, best known for its work on the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, to develop a new super robot series. This is what came to be known as Yuusha, or more commonly, Brave.
The eight Brave shows, collectively known as the Brave Series, ran from 1990 to 1997, with spinoffs and sequels running up to 2005. The series are known for their mix of excellent robot designs, elaborate combination and attack sequences, and some of the most fun toys to come out of the 1990s. Compare that to any Transformer iteration and you can see why we feel it deserves it’s moment in the spotlight at TFNation 2017!
So how will TFNation celebrate this? Let’s start with a panel!
Join us on Friday 11th August 2017 as we are joined by long time Brave fans Simon “Sol Fury” Barlow, Matt “Timey Wimey” Clark and Sid “CZ Hazard” Beckett to take an in-depth look into the lesser known cousin of the Transformers universe. We will take you on a journey through this brave new world from 1990s Brave Exkaiser until the 1997 The King of Braves: GaoGaiGar.
Learn how designs originally planned for the Transformers line were incorporated into the early series, how aspects of the cartoons use character models from previous Transformers shows (the Dinobots, Deathsaurus, Scorponok, Sixshot and various others), and how the stories of the series developed an identity of their own apart from Transformers.
But what about the toys? Have we got a display for you?
Throughout the weekend ensure you visit the Forge as we showcase the largest display of Brave DX figures ever compiled. If you are a fan of Generation One Transformers figures, especially toys such as Star Saber, then this is must. Your wallet may not thank you but your eyes will feast on the delights which Takara produced in the decade after Generation One. Marvel at some of the greatest and most unique combining robots of all time, along with some creative reuses of the Generation One Transformers molds. For those newer fans who appreciate when Hasbro gets a minor repaint right, just you wait and see how the masters of repainting did it!

As promised, a few words on Pinky and Violetche.
I wasn't too interested in either of them at first beyond just the excitement of having new villains. At first they're extremely hostile towards each other anyway on the occasions where they interact. It really gets interesting when Pinky loses her main general status and adult form... and then Violetche just keeps her around. Unlike the other subordinates, he actually talks to her.
Then 10 episodes later, Pinky loses what she actually values -- her youth. And Violetche goes through a surprising amount for her in an attempt to get it back! In the process though, he becomes disillusioned with Ohboss. Cause Ohboss just doesn't live in the same dimension as the rest of them. Again, feels like a metaphor for simping for billionaires.
Violetche gets a pretty heroic moment threatening Ohboss with leaking all its energy and also restoring Pinky to her youth, but in exchange he loses his cool shapeshifting ability and is permanently reverted into a kittycat. Which is the first form we see him in, iirc. Just that now he's lost verbal ability.
I'm still glad they didn't kill him off entirely, cause he was one of the coolest characters in the cast. That's WITH the onee speech. The subber clearly had a fun time with his flair too.
Their ultimate fate of venturing out into the universe is a curious choice. The easy thing to do would just be have them live on Earth with the rest of the cast. But they don't seem to think that's for them. They don't even wait for Ohboss to be defeated, they just zoom off in a random direction.
It wasn't even a matter of feeling guilt iirc, it was just that the Earth wasn't for them. Which is respectable. The universe is wide and we don't all have to get along but we should probably at least cooperate for common survival.
tl;dr another big win for mlm wlw solidarity. friendship blooms even between villains.
the exkaiser dog cameo'd at least twice in here. i hope it finds better circumstances.
Ahh, so the villain is a space billionaire. Yeah, this fits the environmentalist theme.
