Alone and separated from your friends, you board the midnight train bound for Tenebrae. The train is going at 110 mph and you won't arrive until midday. Your stomach rumbles and growls. When was the last time you ate? As if on cue someone, no SOMETHING holds out a bag of potato chips to you. It's a Yojimbo and it looks like it wants to share its snack with you. What do you do?
He’d been staring at the map for... well, for way longer than anyone should ever stare at a map. Was it the map that made no sense or was it his fault? Seriously, he could read the words well enough, but something wasn’t adding up. Where he was, where he was going. There were a bunch of lines that were color-coded but it looked like an optical illusion at one point or one of those “make your way out of the labyrinth” puzzles that he remembered hating because who would ever actually need that in their lives after school? Apparently he did! Owed apology to Mr. Johnson: noted.
Trying to calm down a little and focus on something else, Prompto reached down to settle a hand on his stomach. Okay, yeah, he should get food, that’d help him think. There was a food car or something, right? Even if all it had was vending stuff, he could still--
Oh. Wow, how embarrassing. Someone must have heard his stomach growling even as he was certain he was alone on that particular car. They looked like super nice chips and all, but he wasn’t about to take food from someone. One, it felt rude, but two, he didn’t really know anyone on the train... “That’s awful nice of you, but I’ll be okay, I swear. Was just gonna look for the food cart.” He tried to brush it off, taking one more look at the map. No help.
Then he was ever so gently poked with the bag. Uh, insistent much? “No, thanks.” The bag rattled slightly, but remained where it was. Okay, new strategy. “Hey, really, thanks but I’m not--”
Then he looked up. And up. And up a little more. And sort of felt his whole body lock up. “Sh-- H-hey there.” He sort of expected to die. Didn’t really expect the daemon to rattle the bag of chips again.
This can’t be happening. He was aware of how close his guns were to his hand. Aware that these daemons could move faster than he could blink, had impaled Noctis before and he did not make it look like a good time. But...
But. Reaching for a chip with a shaky hand, he managed to force himself to chew. And swallow. Those were... actually really good. “Oh, hey. Jalapeno, right?”
