Every response, and I mean every one--admittedly only about 20 some--were adamant that he did not love her. It was all about the power for him. Oh, no, he deeply loved Laena and Nettles. And when she upset him re: Nettles, he took off and deserted her, did his own thing.

And, I'm like WHU?!? (In my head, I didn't bother responding to such overwhelming nonsense.)

In the book, Daemon gives Rhaenerya gifts. Daemon is likely the one who lie with her first. Daemon and Rhaenrya married as soon as they possibly could. Daemon placed the crown on her head. Daemon didn't take the title King Consort, but rather Protector of the Realm. Daemon defended her children as his own. Daemon fought for her as Queen ferociously. He was her greatest supporter.

There is literally ONE paragraph about Laena and Daemon. One suggestion is that it was a love match, however it is said that more likely it was a political match for power. Funny how most who discuss this "great love" of Daemon and Laena (generally the anti-Daemerya peeps) ignore that "However..." part of the paragraph.

Don't get me wrong, I think Daemon and Laena loved one another, but it likely was a companionship, understanding of one another type of love. Not some great love.

Then there is Nettles... she is his daughter's age. The salacious account is from an anti-Rhaenrya account. However, the maester at Maidenpool--where they were staying--said Daemon treated her as a daughter. I will be surprised if that isn't the type of relationship we see on the show.

Which brings us to the whole ridiculous notion brought up that Daemon deserted Rhaenrya, proof that he didn't love her. :rme: Rhaenrya was being manipulated, per Septon Eustace, (anti-Rhaenrya) by Mysaria, essentially her Mistress of Whisperer, who told her that Nettles was betraying her, had seduced Daemon with magic, and was turning him against her.

Daemon knew the truth of it. He knew that Rhaenrya was upset, and would be upset that he essentially saved Nettles, and erm, committed treason by doing so. Soooo, I believe it waaaaay more likely he went after Aemond in the hope of bringing him down so that if he succeeded, Rhaenrya would win, hands down. He could come back to King's Landing with Aemond's head, and say 'Hey, babe, I know you're upset with me, but looked at what I did. You forgive me? I know you do!'
