The broadcast began again. Same Karin, same location, same outfit, same words, same story. She watched it play out again, looking for some flaw. A hair out of place, or maybe the jacket was the wrong size. It played a third time, and a fourth. Every detail was correct. The woman in the television turned to her. To the real Karin. Her voice and expression did not change, but her gaze shifted ever so slightly. She was looking at her, through whatever time and distance that stood between them. Like a lighthouse illuminating a ship amongst crashing waves. She spotted her. She knew. By the sixth watch, the woman in the television was smiling. Smiling at her. She knew there was nothing the real Karin could do. If she even was the real Karin Sauer. If the woman in the screen were to climb from out of that box and strangle her to death, no one would ever know. The likeness was too perfect. Her smile widened. Karin's chest pounded, body trembled. The outlines of the apartment walls melted around her, until everything was just a smear of white fuzz. Like she was the sketch, a mistake, being erased, and the canvas made clear again. The woman in the screen had so many plans for her life, she'd make it better. Because she was the real thing, the better thing, the final draft. All imperfections rectified, which just left this Karin. Abandoned, unlovable, broken Karin. Too much and not enough, like Dalia used to say.

I considered writing a short fic about it but I don't know if I want to make them suffer like that, it feels exploitative. 🥀

I did go back and look at all the art I made for them though......some stuff I didn't even post.....lowkey it's like staring longingly at a photo of a long lost lover in a locket
