@softsurvivor sent : she didn't think she was going to see him again after he escaped, believing that he wanted to be far away from skaikru as possible. a part of her is relieved, though, now being able to see him once more before praimfaya can drive them beneath the ground. ryan reaches into her pocket, a soft smile on her face when she does so, and pulls out a glove for erik. it was his that he accidentally left behind, completely molded to his anatomy. she believes it belongs to its owner.
time had past dragged between them in the distance that he created by leaving her encampment as he had, the days had bleed into months and all of the the trials and and horrors that had transpired along the way only seemed to push them apart further and further and yet she had not become a faded memory as he had believed that she would, nor a blurred dream that he would dwell on in the dead spaces of night. she lingered. he would catch himself thinking of her, of her dark eyes and how they would come alive with fire when she would stand up for another. he would look for her in the faces of every dark haired woman he saw despite knowing without a shadow of a doubt that she was far from him, safely tucked behind the walls of her people’s outpost but most of all, he would dream of her smile. the small one she would offer to him like a whispered secret in the dark.
yes, she had lingered. like a ghost she had haunted him until he saw her again. he found her easily in the sea of faces and bodies that had come under promises of sanctuary and safety and something caught in his chest when their eyes met and she smiled. somehow it was far more mesmerizing than he remembered and he faltered in the face of it until she presented him with a glove. but not just any glove, his. the one he had left behind in his rush to escape, forced to tear it from his hand in order to work the filed down pieces of steel he had used to pick the lock of his cell. he had forgotten about it until now, until she held it out to him and he took it as if he could scarcely believe it were real.
erik held the familiar leathers tentatively before he lifted his gaze to meet hers once again and the corners of his lips twitched and then curled into a smile of his own. amused, thankful, awed by her commitment to return it to him.
“ it is good to see you again, ” erik said and despite himself, his smile grew wider, “ all it took was the end of the world. ”
