Hullo :')) Fellow Czech here. Since I don't know if you have a language preference I'll keep this EN. I am currently learning ČZJ and just now found your blog and I can't help but ask - it seems to me you can speak ASL or have some understanding of other sign languages as well. Is that true? And if so, how....do I phrase this question in a way that wouldn't sound stupid. Oh, well. *tries to remember what she wanted to ask in the first place* ...how hard is it to be multilingual in sign?

umím jenom ČZJ, ale znám lidi, co umí vícero znakových jazyků. Nejčastější je kombinace ČZJ a ASL, někteří také ovládají International Sign. Pokud vím, tak nejvíce znakových jazyků v ČR ovládá Mgr. Radka Nováková, která studovala i na univerzitě v Gallaudetu (Neslyšící universita v USA). Potkala jsem také tlumočníka Tima Curryho, který ovládá ASL a později se naučil Čzj i mezinárodní znakový systém a dokáže tlumočit mezi všemi těmito jazyky (+ AJ )
Na Ústavu jazyků a komunikace neslyšících na FF UK v Praze někdy nabízí cizí znakové jazyky jako volitelné předměty (určitě byl jeden čas volitelný předmět Mezinárodní znakový systém a také byl předmět Indiánské znakové jazyky). Většinou vyučující ale vyžadují, aby student ovládal jeden znakový jazyk plynně nebo velmi dobře, než se začne učit druhý. Jinak ti hrozí, že z toho budeš mít guláš. Asi jako není dobrý nápad být Angličan a učit se najednou polštinu a češtinu... ;)
Takže rozhodně to možné je, ale je to dost náročné. A většinou vícero ZJ ovládají spíše Neslyšící, kteří pak působí jako Neslyšící tlumočníci.

How to become a Czech in 8 easy steps
Buy a cutlet, cover it in eggs, flour and bread crumbs and fry it. Congratulations, you have successfully prepared a řízek, which is the most czech thing this planet has ever seen (svíčková is a close second).
If you’re going on a trip, take a řízek with you!

So here’s a thing: while the most logical thing would be to liken Emil Nekola to the current Czech ice skater star Tomáš Verner, lemme present you Ondrej Nepela.
Nepela [1951-89] was a Slovakian skater representing Czechoslovakia - he’s won gold at the Sapporo Olympics in 1972, won the World Championship three times & the European Championship five times, and obliterated the Czechoslovakian Championship from 1964 to 1973. He was also gay, and reportedly had flings with other skaters at the time, like John Curry or Toller Cranston. Nepela died at age of 38 of lymphoma cancer, caused by HIV; both his orientation and cause of death were absolutely not spoken of in public at the time. In 2011, ice arena in Bratislava was named after him.
His coach, Hilda Múdra, said that young Nepela, at the age of seven, used to dance the routines of his skating idol, Karol Divín, in front of a tv whenever the championship was on, and that he was beside himself when his idol so much as talked to him.

16. Which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?
Honestly, there are not *that* many stereotypes about us. I suppose I hate the one that we are drunkards, but its more like... It pisses me off because I think its true. Alcoholism is a huge problem here. Also that we are grouchy complainers. I hate it, but we kinda are.
But I love the stereotype that we are atheists/agnostic because yep, thats what we are. I am very proud of that. (yes, yes, plenty of czech people are believers, but its a minority here.) Its a proud czech historical tradition to hate organized religion and it stuck here to this day.
21. If you could send two things from your country into space, what would they be?
I wanted to say Krteček, but that’s already been done!
I honestly can’t think of anything else.
22. What makes you proud about your country? what makes you ashamed?
I am proud that we are still standing strong. I am proud of our amazing language (Ř!!!), our castles and our beautiful nature. Mountains, rivers, forests... I am proud that we are helping each other in these dark times. I am proud of our craftiness and ingenuity.
I am not very proud of our goverment right now. Or ever. I am ashamed that racism is still common and that sexism is dismissed. I wish LGTB+ had equal rights in all aspects. And I absolutely loathe certain old men who are in charge.
But overall, I love living here. I think our country has future, and that we should be fighting for it.

Vypadá to, že je čas na menší každoroční vábení CALL TO ARMS přednášejících pro NatsuCon, a to hned ze dvou důvodů!
Zvolna (čti: rychle) se začíná nachylovat čas pro přihlášení přednášek, takže pokud stále váháte, jestli to letos zkusit, neváhejte! Formulář najdete na webu akce. (Ne vážně, není se čeho obávat, nekoušu - přednášející mají samozřejmě vstup na akci zdarma plus nehynoucí obdiv publika jako bonus!)
Docela sháním přednášející, co by si rádi střihli přednášku spadající pod yuri tématiku - pokud o někom víte, zkuste do nich šťouchnout, jestli si na letošním Natsu nechtějí zapřednášet.
