His advice is sound, even if you donāt like it. In a āprofessionalā environment, natural hair colors and conservative dress are still preferred. In most other industries, the dress code is more relaxed. If the dress code of your dream job is ācasualā (not business casual, thatās different) then your hair color, piercings and tattoos wonāt matter. Business or business casual dress codes wonāt allow for excessive piercings, visible tattoos or ānon-naturalā hair colors.
iām well aware of this. i work at a university, and someone who is literally the boss of both of us encouraged me to do it. i know where and when itās permitted. my last job was at a school where i was required to wear skirts. i know places exist where dress codes donāt allow it. heās saying people will respect me less, which yeah, probably, but i donāt want their respect anyway if itās dependent on my hair color
