I met Stephen Graham Jones the other night! He is currently doing a book tour of the paperback release of The Buffalo Hunter Hunter and I spent so much money on a hotel room just to be able to go and worth it. I know authors go on book tours when the Hell would be the next time he'd come to Scotland, eh?
I think about I Was a Teenage Slasher every day. It is my favourite horror book and my favourite book of all time. It was a fantastic talk, I had a smile on my face the full time.
The first thing he said to me as I stepped up to get my books signed was that he liked my necklace so already the best author interaction I've ever had lmao. We had a little chat, told him the story of how I almost lost my Teenage Slasher book on a tour bus when I was in LA earlier this year. I'm hardly ever starstruck, and I know non-readers would find that strange but I look at this man as an influential author, his work has shaped so much of my taste in horror.
The experience of meeting someone who you admire can be wonderful and inspiring. Afterwards I had a good old think. I post a lot of book tuff on instagram but my insta isn't entirely dedicate to books, I have a lot of family and friends there and I can imagine they get tired of it but I really hope I have inspired people to read. Why? Because the feeling of meeting Stephen Graham Jones made me feel lighter, creative and a part of a community and aren't those specular feelings. I want everyone to find a book and an author that can do that.
