[The Belgians] arrive at the course in the RV and stay laying down until the tents are up and the bikes are ready. Warm up and head out to ride the course. Come back, legs up, and wait. Thirty minutes before the start, warm up and head to the line. Race, spin down, food, shower, leg rub, lay down and sleep. These guys live for this sport. It’s all or nothing. There’s a level of devotion that matches with the pay off that can only be found here. These are warriors from a distant tribe and this is a battle we know too little to fight in.

On women’s racing… “It’s good for the women who are entering the race and the level of competition is high again. It’s nice to see everyone out here. I was surprised there weren’t as many New England riders down here but I know they have a Vermont race next weekend. But in the same respect, I thought they might want to kick it off too, it’s early for everyone. But you have to pick and choose.”
