been thinking abt tfp Megatron at the end of the movie and why he decided to give up. He says smth abt remembering what oppression feels like and that he ‘lost his taste for it’ and i know some ppl find that an unsatisfying reason, myself included.
but the more i think about the more i lean toward the idea that Megatron said that as like a diversion from his real reasons and also used it as code to Optimus to say, yeah im serious about this you can do your thing in peace
Megatron’s actual reasoning for quitting the war? He fucking died. To Bumblebee of all people. I think Megatron didn’t have a concrete goal anymore; he was just caught in a state of perpetual… daydream, fantasy, almost? Him versus Optimus, locked in glorious combat for the rest of forever, with the vague desire for universal conquest in the background.
I think if Optimus had been the one to kill him, he would have been either satisfied to stay dead or willing to continue on indefinitely after Unicron had revived him. But dying to Bumblebee specifically, having his fantasy ruined, I think is what made him lose his taste not for violence and oppression, but for the fantasy he’d forged. Bumblebee broke his illusion and Megatron had to face reality. A reality in which he lost.
is that what the writers intended? Ehh, probably not, but that’s what fandom is for lol. Also, a little unrelated, but rid15 should have featured Megatron getting his shit figured out and becoming less of a jackass warlord
