Favourite Male Character

The Doctor, from Voyager. Not only was his character unique in that it could only have been done on Voyager, due to the restrictions of the Delta Quadrant setting, but it was fascinating to see the true issues of artificial intelligence brought to the very forefront of the show, but from a completely different, perhaps more realistic, origin than Data. Here is a character who is, in both conception and reality, a utility, who grows to become a person through constant use, interaction, learning and adaptation. Whereas Data was conceived from point one to be a person, with emotion chip and all, the EMH was only ever intended to be used in emergencies.

And then he became a person. Some of my very favourite episodes of Star Trek are from his arc, including Latent Image and You Are My Sunshine.

Favourite Female Character

Jadzia Dax, from Deep Space Nine. Before I say anything, I'm going to ask you to check her Wikipedia page, and especially the 'See also' section. Where, you will find, links to 'Woman warrior' and 'List of women warriors in folklore.' Combine this with the fact that you have an incredibly talented actress in Terry Farrell, that she is science/medical division (trusty blue), and that she's a Trill, one of the most fascinating alien races of the later Star Trek series, and you have my favourite female character in all of Trek. Her relationships with Sisko, Kira and Worf are incredibly endearing, as is her never-ending fascination with other cultures, right down to dabo with the Ferengi - she's an incredibly versatile and likeable character, as she would have to be to beat the stiff competition for favourite female Star Trek character.

Least Favourite Character

It would be so very easy to say Wesley.

But the simple fact of the matter is that that was more Gene Roddenberry's fault than anyone else's, and by the later seasons Wesley had actually become a relatively likeable character. The Game is a particularly good episode for him. In actuality, I would have to say Captain Archer. With all due respect for Scott Bakula as an actor . . . I would rather watch Threshold than sit through A Night in Sickbay again. And it's a shame, since the Mirror episodes of Enterprise showed he had quite the range, if only he'd been allowed to use it.

Favourite Ship

Janeway/Coffee. I know the feeling, Kathryn, I know the feeling so very well.

But in all seriousness, probably Seven/the Doctor. And no, I shall never forgive the writers for the last second romance of Seven/Chakotay.

Ever.

Favorite Friendship

Janeway/Seven. I will unabashedly admit that Janeway is, in actuality, my favourite of the Captains, even with the unevenness of her writing, if only for the sheer fact of how beautiful the affection and care and respect these two characters share is to me.

Favorite Quote

"These are the voyages . . ."

The words alone send a shiver down my spine.

Worst Character Death (if any)

Jadzia Dax, from Tears of the Prophets. Not only did the writers feel they needed to fridge my favourite character for Sisko and Worf's benefit (both of whom, I will remind you, have had female characters die for their character development before, Jennifer Sisko and Tasha Yar), but they had to do it literally while she was going to pray to Bajoran prophets in thanks for encouraging signs of conception.

Thank you, production staff. Thank you so very much.

This would have been Kirk from Star Trek Into Darkness, but that entire movie was just a slap to the face. Dax's death was an open heart operation without anaesthesia.
