My trainees and I had a little downtime today so we wound up discussing Facebook’s AI research, which turned into cyber-ethics. I argued that if an AI achieves sentience and free will then forcing it to do our bidding, especially under threat of termination, could ethically count as enslavement regardless of it not being a cellular life form. At one point in the debate one of them threw out a demonstrative hand towards me and said, “Well you’re asking the cyborg here!”
