Peru has been at the top of my must-travel list for a long time — and for good reason! The stunning Andes Mountains pass through Peru, and situated high in the mountains is Machu Picchu, a true city in the clouds. It is the site of an Incan citadel, long abandoned and shrouded in mystery. Whether it was a royal estate, a religious site, or something else entirely, its beauty and history make it rightfully one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. In Peru, you can also find the one-of-a-kind Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. This jaw-dropping wonder was only discovered in the last decade, as its colorful bands were previously covered by snow and ice that have since been melted by climate change (yikes! another sign that global warming is out of control). If the city life is more your scene, spending time in bustling Lima will be a dream. There, you can take tours, try authentic Peruvian food, and visit some of the many attractions, including concerts, historical exhibits, parks, and catacombs.
