The peony bud is one of my favorite things to watch evolve in springtime. It is a well sought after bloom we know and love. The simple care of not planting too deeply, cleaning up the previous years foliage, and good air circulation, makes the peony a plant to have in the perennial border. There is a catch. You have to make time to embrace the bloom. On average. The blooms will onlyvlast a few days. I noticed over the past few years that a part shade area allows these beauties to have a longer bloom time in the garden. To my own surprise, scabiosas have become one of my most favorite cut flowers recently. Their delicate ethereal beauty seems to be just irresistible to me. This light pink one and her friends have been gracing our dining room table for many days now and each time I look at them I can’t help but feeling in awe of their loveliness! Lately, I wasn’t too lucky with cut flowers. The daffodils I bought never opened and the second time they dried up after just one day. Has that ever happened to you? But these scabiosas are just fantastic. I have never seen this variety before but find the coloration, simplicity, and airiness of the blooms so beautiful. They could be wildflowers, just picked from the field and would be perfect growing in a cottage garden. And the best is, they lasted already over a week and are still gracing our living room with their beauty. Wishing you all a lovely weekend whatever you do. Me?
